  • Harem Scarem. Done it?

    Hello All,

So, it looks like Harem Scarem has some pretty good drops. I specifically need Dispel and gil. Has anyone done it? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

Harem Scarem is a 6 man BCNM against 6 mobs. Wiki says all the mobs are immune Lullaby (so BRD won't help). Sleepga is level 31, which means that not even BLM can be counted on for crowd control in this BCNM. And they're all immune to Charm, so you can't try having 5 BSTs to charm the 5 lesser mobs.

I'm guessing there's not a lot of info on this BCNM just because it's so difficult. If all you want is either Dispel or the chance at a good money drop, there are easier BCNMs. Creeping Doom is good for a BLM trio to manaburn (just read up on the Aspir burn strategy). Petrifying Pair, Carapace Combatants and Birds of a Feather are several other BCNMs with comparable drops for which there are reliable win strategies out there.

      Re: Harem Scarem. Done it?

Pretty much the only reason to do this BCNM is for the pure, suicidal challenge of it. As is, the second you walk into that fight, you WILL get pummeled by 5 pissed off lady Dhamels and their pimp daddy. And the drops aren't even that good considering other BCs drop them more often, with easier fights.

Buy dispel in Rabao, it's sold from an NPC there. Get up sandy fame and you can even cut the price down some.

That Creeping Doom looks good. Two RDMs and another mage sound okay for it?

You can get Dispel at the AH for 10-15K less, but still around 55-60K!!!

The really sound strategy I've read for this BCNM is for all 3 players to Aspir Bitoso every chance they get. For a level 30 cap battle, that means either BLM or DRK. Bitoso has really high resistance to Silence. If you don't Aspir away every last bit of his MP, you'll find him spamming Cure IIIs throughout the battle.

My recommendation: you'll want BLM sub for RDM as you progress in the game. Might as well take it up to 30 now (if you haven't already) and use BLM for Creeping Doom.

It's the BC in Giddeus (which is near Windurst).

I suppose a group like PLD + 5 SMNs might be able to pull this off using 2 hours. Have the PLD go in, voke the main NM Dhalmel, 2 hour, and then have all 5 SMNs Astral Flow the crowd into oblivion.

Not terribly efficient though. You have to wait 2 hours every time you want to make another attempt.

Maybe 5 players with decent solo jobs could each try to solo one of the wives, while the 6th player kites the main NM until the rest of the team is free to zerg it to death. Still, like you said, there are easier BCNMs out there that still drop Dispel, Utsusemi: Ni, and maybe another decent money drop.

I've always done it War/Mnk w/Gaxe and Sleep Bolts x2 + Whm and never had a problem with it...except for the one Whm who blew all his MP on silence despite requests not too. Either way, it's a fun fight, crap drop rates.

The only 'good' thing about this fight is that they don't seem to hit that hard individually....it's when they gang bang you it becomes a problem. I've tried it a few times with a strat of 'sleep three/kill three' concept. But if they don't sleep, which happens often, you'll end up with a ton of hoof print in your skull...

                Re: Harem Scarem. Done it?

Guys, read the guide I put on ffxicopedia.org in the discussion section of this BCNM. This is a regular BCNM I do, and none of our 6 members even get close to dying. I had to come up with my own strategy since the 3x RDM one that used to be on the Wiki didn't seem particularly good to me. I needed to get the Beater's Mantle for my COR/RNG, and we got 2 from this BCNM over about 14 runs, but no Utsusemi: Ni drops at all. I'll copy and paste it here just for convenience:

A nice working combination for this BCNM is as follows:

1x WAR/NIN with VIT/DEF gear, defense food such as boiled/steamed crab.

                1x WHM with Yag Drink

                1x RDM/BLM with Yag Drink

2x WAR/NIN with DD gear, attack food such as Rice Dumplings or Dhalmel Pies

1x Random DD (SAM/WAR was good for us)

With the above setup the BCNM was very easy, we went 7/7 and plan on repeating more soon.

                Strategy:

After you go in and buff, and rest for MP, the Defense WAR approaches the Dhalmels, has Regen cast on him, puts defender up and then runs in to aggro all mobs. (Supertanking). This WAR then just runs around the edge of the circle kiting all the Dhamels while the WHM staying in the middle of the circle casts cures (WHM will not pull hate due to the fact the WAR has only aggroed the mobs, not attacked them in any way).

Then a designated puller from the remaining DDs pulls 1 Wife Dhalmel at a time back to the pathway leading up to the BCNM, and between the DDs and the RDM, the wives go down quick one at a time. RDM don't bother with Silence, but Dia and Gravity are handy enfeebles.

When only the main mob (Husband?) is left, everyone joins in to finish him off. Its good to save TP on the last Wife to go in hard on the husband, as he will spam healing breeze throughout.

Since you will probably have 6 orbs to trade, when finished allow everyone but the RDM to "run away" back to the entrance so they don't have to run all the way back round. Once everyone is out, the RDM/BLM opens the chest, everyone can see the treasure and can cast lots. Once all treasure drops, RDM/BLM escapes (presuming uncapped the RDM is at least lvl 58) which brings him/her back to Giddeus entrance and a much shorter run back. If you don't have a lvl 58 RDM/BLM then have the random DD be /THF or THF for flee, and get them to open the chest at the end.
