the reason I ask the question is has anyone else noticed that while the mithra is healing they are praying? (noting wrong with that) the Mithraism belives in paganism and I dont thats the point I'm trying to get accross hince the reason for the question
..... religion? religion?! This is a game....... religion does not belong here, you say you don't want to play race just because you are "religious"
god....... -.- this is why I stopped going to church and gave up on any religion period... they all SUCK (but Buddhism is ok)
Its a game, next thing you will say you wont play Elvaan because they worship Altana.........
but to answer that silly question... if you had serached and read..... Mithra believe in good old mother earth, in this game
You may have your own beliefs to hold up but FFXI is a game, just like an other, you can't really relate it to the real world because either you will go insane or just waste the oppurtunity to play a decent game. They could get their inspiration for names, races or items from anything but it's just inspiration, it doesn't mean they support it or like it. I wouldn't worry about it.
Play the game, if you don't like: don't play it. Don't give up on it already because of a name, it's a game, for fun! So have fun playing it.
Mithranism is some religion I've never really bothered looking into.
In FFXI, the Elvaan and most races believe in the Goddess Altana, but the Mithra believe the earth itself is the Goddess.
Most of the religious nature FFXI potrays is a reflection of religions. If you really wanted to take it seriously, The Sandorian Cathedral is the Catholic Church and I guess the Tavnazian Cathedral would have been more like Protestant. Its essentially the same faith, but just like Christianity, slightly different views.
The Tarutaru do also do seem to believe in Altana, but believe the prayers of the world are sent to the heavens and Altana through the Great Tree and the Star Sybil.
The Mithra usually reflect tribal cultures, they believe the earth is sacred and take whats done to the earth rather seriously.
And then there's the non-religious part of FFXI - Bastok. You could say Bastok is the reflection of the US/Japan in modern times. There is little talk of religon in Bastok, just a neglected statue of the Goddess. Faith is a much more private matter there.
Anyway, to make decisions on what you play/read/watch based on your religon is letting religion - not faith - rule you. There is a difference. Faith is a belief you hold in your heart, religon is doing something just because it was told to you by some guy behind a pulpit or something you read on paper.
I was raised in a Baptist church, some in that circle of Christianity view dancing as as this bad/sinful thing. I'll agree that it can be taken to uneccessary sexual extremes, but I've come to see it as a great social activity in which you get to meet people. Not all of us lose control of what goes on down below just because we're much closer to a woman than usual.
