I see I got flamed. the Reason I asked is because I like the Race and I am Religous and I found this. And was wondering if thats why they named the Mithra what they did cause IF it is I won't play it.

Heres What I found and why I am Asking this question.

"Mithra" is a term that Square Enix ironically opted to apply to an all-female playable race. The reason why it is so ironic is because the word "Mithra" is actually the name of a male/female god, Mithras, who belongs to a monotheistic cult that was contemporary with early Christian religions.
Not only this, but when one compares Christian religions to the Mithran cult, one learns that Mithranism far exceeds Christianity when it comes to being a patriarchal religion!
Note: "Patriarchal" means that the religion focuses predominately on male worshipers, and only permits male leadership.

The mithran race isn't female only, it's just that you can only play as females. The males are rarely born and must remain in their homeland to reproduce or something.

SE also plays fast and loose with the deities they do borrow. The likelihood of SE choosing the Mithra name because of the religion behind it is about the same as winning Lotto Texas I think.

SE saw this, liked the name and was like, hmm...Mithra...that sounds good, okay our cat-girl fetish is now named Mithra. That's what I think at least. When I heal on my Elvaan I pray with one hand, cause I'm talented like that. And Elvaan, as far as the game is concerned, are far more religious than Mithra are. So I really believe they just chose it as something they saw through random deity research, and liked the name.

Sorry to say this but it requires Mhurron's skill to make this kinda posts without sounding like an angry person who forgot their happy-happy medication for the day.


And seriously, the tone of the forums has changed a lot in the last months. I mean, there are hundreds of ways of replying to a thread (regardless of how annoying it can be to some posters) without flaming.

Now, if it was a rude or childish poster with an attitude I could understand it, but going for jugular at the very beginning of a thread that wasn't offensive at all is way too much.

I used to think that maybe Manthra were opressed, but maybe they will come out as a bunch of very wise (tribal leader like) kinda characters who simply live quiet lives and choose not to fight while the crazy women of the tribe do the hunting, kinda like Lions. =P

Relax, it's a game. It's possible that SE was trawling through mythologies, found a name they liked and Hijacked it for a race name, that's all that's possibly going on here.

Playing a mithra wouldn't suggest to any but the most unbalanced conspiracy theorist or hysterical religious nut that you were the advocate of an extremely obscure religion that most people haven't heard of and certainly don't care about.

On an unrelated side note, my hume does 'the Bruce Forsythe pose' when she's resting.
