I'm hoping to complete the quest to get that job at some point, and haven't really looked into what kinds of weapons a DRG should use yet.
What do you reccommend for a DRG as an ideal weapon?
Course...... I am just interested in your personal opinion, but I shall go and look around too and see what there is.
I'm sure I will find something suitable.

Its an easy answer, Polearm, the classic Dragoon weapon, its really the only weapon a DRG should use, but if your fighting skeletons, you could also use a staff, if your skill is maxed.

I was only trying to ask someone's personal opinion on something!! (even though I already found what I was looking for!)

Erm..... and btw..... I'm a "SHE!"
You should KNOW that, judging by the image of my avatar!
Unless of course you want to accuse me of being a manthra, which is most certainly NOT the case here!

      SHEESH! *shakes head*

I'm sorry about that. I did look through and found that answer afterwards last night, and was going to note it to you guys, but I was getting tired, (it was a late evening for me) and wanted to get some sleep.

So I guess I already know now, but thanks for mentioning it though. I appreciate it.

Btw - I also noticed that a DRG can use a dagger too, but the dmg isn't as good as it is with a polearm, so this would be the better option. (polearm, not the dagger)

Agreed. That linkshell could never do anything for you, or anyone else, so just leave and find one with halfway competent players.

Going back to what weapon a War should use.
I think a Great Axe is a very good weapon for War, as it does a lot of dmg, but none of you have mentioned the Great Sword.
That is what I personally have chosen to use for War. (I trust this also sounds like quite a good weapon for War to you guys) The Great Axe, DOES deal a bit more extra dmg, and like I said, I agree it's definitely a good weapon, but it just gives a bit of a longer wait time between attacks/hits than a Great Sword does. And I know that with both these weapons, it gives the creature you're attacking, 2 chances to hit you on every round before you hit back, but I think I personally just prefer the Great Sword for War. Great Axe is still very good here though. I don't really see a lot wrong with it.
The great sword is not inherently a bad weapon; as you point out, the higher damage of great axes is balanced out by their higher delay, so overall damage per minute would be about the same, with equal skill.

However, WAR has a higher skill rating in great axe, which means that at any given level, a great axe WAR will have higher skill than a great sword WAR, which will give them more accuracy and attack. This effect won't be huge at low levels, but at higher levels (and especially after level 50) it will get much bigger and after that point it is almost always better to use your job's A ranked weapons.

Also, if you are a WAR/THF, at level 30 you will gain the ability to Sneak Attack (if you have your THF leveled up to 15). The great axe weaponskill Sturmwind is very powerful combined with Sneak Attack, so you should definitely try it out when you reach that level.

Aside from that, it's not bad to use a great sword some of the time, but it's probably also a good idea to use axe and great axe at least once every couple of levels to cap your skill, because you will want to use them more later.

If you really like great swords, you might want to try DRK, which has an A rating in them. You'll have plenty of opportunity to use a great sword while unlocking DRK (and also if you do the followup quest for a very nice low level great sword, Deathbringer).
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
            RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

Re: People being stupid with Jobs

@ Snowball: For a Dragoon, there really is no better weapon class than Polearm. It is our A rank weapon, and does more damage over time (DoT) than even Swords and Daggers that we can equip can do (I'd even go so far as to say that the lovely Joyeuse can't match Polearm DoT for a Dragoon). The Weapon Skills available to Dragoon from Sword and Dagger aren't as good as the ones we get from Polearm, and Jumps will suffer from the lower base damage ratings of the other two weapon types as well. Furthermore, when you equip Samurai as a subjob for Dragoon (which every good Dragoon should have by level 50+), Hasso and Seigan won't work unless you're equipped with a 2-handed weapon; again, another indicator that Dragoon + Polearm = "Well, duh ".

Aside: One could make the argument for /NIN and DW Swords, but then the DoT and delay from doing that is roughly comparable to Polearm anyway, and still suffers in the WS and Jump department from lower base damage. With /SAM, the Polearm delay (especially Lance-class Polearms) is about the same as DW 2, and still does better DoT for the Dragoon, while providing stronger (and way more) WSs and better Jumps.

A Great sword would be better than a staff, the higher attack power on great sword gives it that edge. The skill of a great sword isn't much higher than a staff though, B+ in great sword, B in staff. Great Axe has an A+ rating which gives a higher cap on the skill per level of the weapon. More skill = more attack and more accuracy.

For example, on Warrior, Great Axe caps at skill level 276 at level 75, Great Sword caps at 256, Staff caps at 250. An extra 26 levels the great axe has over staff and the 20 levels over Great swords really give it the edge.

The only other weapon commonly used by warriors is the single handed axe. An A- rating here gives them a cap of 269 but using 2 single handed axes with dual wield trait of the usual /NIN sub job allows for the bonuses lost from the lower skill to be made up by the weapon in the off hand.
