Re: People being stupid with Jobs

Often, it's how one package the advice.

"Hey, did you know that Great Axe is WAR's 'A' ranked weapon? You'd do better damage instead of Staff, a 'B' ranked weapon. Using 'A' ranked weapon gives you better accuracy and attack once you've capped your weapon's skill!"

People usually won't be hostile toward that kind of suggestion. They often still ignore it, and say things like "Nah, I like the way ____ looks better." But, at least you won't end up arguing with them.

"If you want to solo to 75, you use your staff. If you're going to be in a party with 5 other people who want exp, you're wasting their fucking $13/month on your incompetence. Those other people who rely on you need you to be efficient."

I think the OP is in need of a good dose of "The worlds stupidity is not your problem."

After all, even laboratory rats figure out that the same actions result in the same consequences.

Wanting to help people is all well and good, but some people don't want 'help'. Trying to impose your will on them, even if you think what you have in mind is 'better' than what they have is (...what's the word I'm looking for here?) Fascist? Yeah I guess you are right never looked at it that way, yesterday I was kind of pissed off about somthing personal in the first place, so then I didnt really care. But yeah, I probly came off as the bitch, even though I have had people talk to me the same way I talked to them. I thought it was very helpful, then again I guess everyone is different, and I need to look at the world a different way, and stop thinking that I can help EVERYONE.

Some people are just diligent in thier quest to do things the way they want. I meet them all the time and try to explain or show how something else would be more effective, but it's usally all for not.

There's a particular rdm/war, /rng, /nin, /drg that has somehow gotten to 75 without elemental staves on my server. Then thiers the whm/nin in parties I know. I try to explain that they would be more effective in parties with a different choice of subs, yet they don't listen no matter how much I try. I've given up and just don't party with them.

My advice would be to stick around in the LS and learn what *not* to do since it appears you are newer to the game. Also for the entertainment value alone of being able to laugh when they keep getting kicked from parties and moaning about it in LS chat. Look around for a new social, and make friends with people that you party with that you find helpful.

I read all kinds of forums and information sites, but I still learn most of what I know from people in the game that are willing to take the time and share thier knowledge with me. And people that just don't want to learn provide my entertainment.

I think that's bad advice for one simple reason:

                People notice linkshells.

You don't want to be the person who provokes this comment:

"Omg this person's in the same linkshell as that war that insisted on using staff we partied with last week....and the two idiots that ate cinna cookies as drg and sam...and...and...and...you know what, let's just kick them and save ourselves the comment."

People will assume you are good friends with any well-known members of your linkshell. It's just the way the game works. In picking a linkshell, well, it's not exactly a clan, but you ARE forming a sort of alliance with other people in the minds of third parties who don't know either one of you.

Not to mention, the idea of 'learn what not to do' is always counterproductive.

I can learn NOT to cast bio over dia
I can learn NOT to run around like a chicken
I can learn NOT to stand up on the front lines in AOE range
I can learn NOT to stay back by the zone line and goof off while my pt works
And will ANY of this help me to be a whm? Nominally, yes, slightly, yes...
Or I can learn I need to cast a cure spell when people's HP gets low.
                Isn't that better?

And those are just more of the type of people that the OP doesn't need to associate with. There are only a few social LSs that are worth a damn on my server. And they don't just commonly /sh for new members. They are selectice in who they let in with good reason.

People that notice linkshells are most likly the type that like to /check you as soon as you join a party. I don't typically mind, but then they like to nitpick every piece of armor, despite that it might be resting gear, town gear or anything else. For laughs I occasionally go to a party in an egg helm, wooden katana, federation aketon and no pants. So certainly not a reflection of my true gear.

Intellegent people will either A) Have more important things to do than memorize what morons are in what social LS or B) Relize that many socials have open admission and 1 or 2 members are not a reflection of the LS as a whole.

PLD used to be able to equip a shield and a "Spark" weapon at the same time due to a glitch by SE. This was back in early 2004 I beleive though. You were also able to equip a Cmb. Cst. Robe +1 or 2 with head gear.

Edit: and by "spark" weapon I mean Spark Fork, Spark Lance, etc.

Yeah I agree..... most of the time, when it comes to subjobs, I am abit open minded, I love to experiment....but when it comes to what weapons to use, there are somethings you just should not do....

one time I had a WAR join our PT with a Lotus Katana and about 90% of his armor was event gear..... we asked him why (thought he was joking) and he said "did not have gil to buy gear" ...we did the only thing you could do in that situation..... we booted him ;p

Really it's just a game, we play to have fun. Some players try to be unique and could care less about being at least decently effective, and others like me just laugh at them. Either way you shouldn't take it too seriously, they may look really dumb trying to play XI WoW-style, but (as long as they are happy) their uniqueness is another player's entertainment.

Re: People being stupid with Jobs

I have a suggestion, or otherwise I'm a little worried on something.

Going back to what weapon a War should use.
I think a Great Axe is a very good weapon for War, as it does a lot of dmg, but none of you have mentioned the Great Sword.
That is what I personally have chosen to use for War. (I trust this also sounds like quite a good weapon for War to you guys) The Great Axe, DOES deal a bit more extra dmg, and like I said, I agree it's definitely a good weapon, but it just gives a bit of a longer wait time between attacks/hits than a Great Sword does. And I know that with both these weapons, it gives the creature you're attacking, 2 chances to hit you on every round before you hit back, but I think I personally just prefer the Great Sword for War. Great Axe is still very good here though. I don't really see a lot wrong with it.

Someone in My LS helped me to get the Gelong Staff a while back, which they thought I could use for War for a while, and got me to setup a macro for it too, but only because of its ability to heal over time. I think I would still use it every now and again too, but I wouldn't see it being very helpful in the long run though, only for its healing purpose every now and again.

                              Btw - "Kailea"
You mentioned that you don't like the idea that DRG should use a sword.
I'm hoping to complete the quest to get that job at some point, and haven't really looked into what kinds of weapons a DRG should use yet.

What do you reccommend for a DRG as an ideal weapon?
Course...... I am just interested in your personal opinion, but I shall go and look around too and see what there is.
I'm sure I will find something suitable.

Edit : I had my very 1st pt in the dunes with War/Thf a couple of days ago, and got from lvl 14 to 18 in just one evening. (update of sig will come again shortly) I'm quite surprised as I think that is the 1st time I've ever got through that many lvls in just 1 pt!
