    Shield Mastery isn't that hot. You only get the first tier which is 1 free TP for every shield block. Sure, it also prevents interrupts when shielding but come on.

      If Spellblade were an ability that would open you magic menu so you could pick which spell of yours to use, that might be a good gimmick. Rather than dealing damage you could sub Whm and heal yourself with Cureblade or something. It'd be something to prevent it from becoming a blood tank.

        It's just an idea but /BLM would work best, depending what JT MKT would actually get.

        I had an idea for a two-hour for MKT. Instead of the AoE suggested by Malacite, the next Spellblade you cast for 30 sec., will always have max damage, ignores resistance/defense, and (if any debuffs/enfeebles) always stick. This could easily be broken with the right Spellblade magic but it's an idea.

          I've been meaning to edit that actually. The 2 hour, instead of AoE, upgrades your spellblades by 1 tier (30 second duration)

            Malacite, I think you and I are more alike than you know in regards to MSK. Before I knew what the jobs were, I really wanted Sorcerer (the only name I'd known them by). When I first saw the short descriptions of RDM enspells, I instantly wanted to be RDM just for them. When I found out how they worked I was all "ok, that's just stupid." So then I set my eyes on Dark Knight. Funny that my DRK is still level 7.

            That reminds me, I really like all the creative power in this thread, but I still feel that BLU is basically the Better-DRK. MSK would just do that all over again. Give them /blm and have them tossing out Bio Sword, which seems very inline with DRK concepts, and things are gonna get messy. Yes, this is pretty much the RDM argument we just started to dig ourselves out of.

              Well, see that's just it. MSK is like a reverse DRK. They have better tanking ability and and fight with weapons and magic, but more so on the magic side than the melee side (or rather, a perfect blend of the two IMO)


              I went by Mystic Knight because, well, I figured more people would be familiar with the GBA remake than the playstation or original SNES title. Guess I was wrong?

              Besides, Sorcerer is kind of a misleading name I find. And "sword mage", while accurate, would just sound dumb. Mystic Knight and Spellblade. For once SE did a
              really good job with changing the titles for a NA port.


              EDIT: I felt the same way about RDM too. When I first read the description for En-Thunder, my mind went "NO WAY! RDM GOT SWORD MAGIC?!" and then reality set in, and I felt crushed.

                You do realise if Mystic Knight comes in as you say "a perfect blend of magic and melee," Red Mages everywhere would scream "blasphemy," possibly even more so than against Blue Mage.

                I mean, I know Red Mages have never had Enspells before, but by that logic, they've never had Refresh before, either.

                  At least Refresh was original though. Enspells are just a half-assed version of Spellblade.

                  And it is a perfect blend. It's magic and melee combined into one action.

                    I just posted my concept for Mystic Knight in the 'Fleshed out jobs' topic and figured I'd post the link to it here since it's related. The idea was to combine attacks similar to the ones used by Holyswordsmen in FFT with the Magical Blades of Mystic Knights of the past. I was originally gonna go with a simple 'tiered en-spell' idea, but Malacites concept of completely turning the sword itself *into* magic was a much better idea and made the job a much more unique concept. I also tried to work in some of his 'Anti-mage' concepts, to give it a more well rounded feel and some more unique abilities. Though I may have gone a little heavy handed on the 'anti-/nin' stuff.

                    Overall, this job was a mix of my original ideas based on FFT Holyknights and Malacite's concepts based off the original class.

                      Intresting idea how did with MKT Ziero, but I'm not sure about those Holy Knight abilities. It makes it feel like MKT a bit too powerful. I could see those other abilities in a Swordmaster type class though. I do like how you did with Barrier, it has the Magic Barrier feel MKT had FFV.

                        No more powerful then Blu is. Each class of Sword Technique is independent of each other, but only one attack per Sword Technique can be used at a time. For example a MSK could use Binding Blade, then Stasis Sword, then Ice Bite sequentially but a MSK couldn't use Binding Blade then Crush Punch as they're both of the same class. Each class has a universal time that affects all attacks of that class, when you use one, you can't use another of the same class until the timer refreshes. It's similar to how Smn has multiple offensive Bloodpacts but can only use one per minute.

                              which is something else I'd love to see for the job. enspells currently only show an effect when you cast, and then a minor little flash when you hit the mob.

                              I want spellblade to visibly represent what spell you've cast all the time (except on WS I guess?)


                              E.g. You cast Spellblade:Fire, and in your hand you have a flame in the shape of a sword.

                                Looking at in-game fireworks (ones that give you wings for a short period of time, ones that make your hands glow for a bit, etc), it doesn't seem very far fetched.
