Re: When Do You Update Your Gear?
QFT. Sometimes, for 10, 20, even 30 levels, there's not a better piece of gear available for a certain slot. Heck, until I got to 72 and got my errant body, I was still wearing my seer's in my resting macro. Level 29 gear on a level 70 whm...? If it's got the hMP.
My holy breastplate enjoyed a similar run of insane duration, I wore it clear up through level 75 till I got my relic briault.
My RSE pants are what, level 31? MP + 30something and mind to boot, try and beat that if you can on a whm leg gear. They lasted till I got my AF pants (And I still liked the RSE better stat-wise but I was tired of men staring at my thighs!). My REAL leg upgrade didn't come until the 70's and blessed slacks. And RSE for a galka mage can't be beaten by three burly men armed with crowbars.
Now some things, like straight-up defense gear, and weapons, are pretty much standardized in that higher level = higher defense/dmg, so there is always an upgrade available as you level up.
But once you stray away from defense gear and weapons, the piece with the higher level requirement is not always an upgrade, and in many many cases is actually counterproductive.
Anyway, this is mostly pretty mage-specific, and sorry to post a borderline-rant, but this is what I found out about gear upgrades and why I think buying all new equipment every 5-10 levels is a bad route to go.
