When Do You Update Your Gear?

I've seen many people with bad non-updated gear. Maybe it's because they're poor, lazy, or just don't care about their job or their defense. So I'm gonna simply ask this. When do you update your gear?

Well I'm a low level but when I see something that will improve my stats, I buy it if I have the money. So I vote "Every opportunity I get".

I update my gear to maximise stats.

I use some guides on wiki which givs the best gear you can have and if I can afford it I will upgrade to it. Currently I dinged lvl 40 with my pld and have been slowly updating my armour I have 2 pieces left to get when they are availiable on the AH.

It amzesme how alot of people i have seen don't upgrade even to the cheapest gear for their level i.e. dunes is the most noticable for this War tanks still in leathers at lvl 12 wondering why the party keeps wiping.

You don't have to buy the most expensive and highest stat possible gear for that level, but if you upgrade to some gear of that level which improoves on the stats of your previous gear than at least you are trying and progressing your job ok.

I update as necessary when a piece becomes available that I can afford, and which will improve my performance.

There are 2 catagories for gear:
Adequate and Luxury

Sometimes what is a Luxury is expected, and adequate gear is consider "gimp" or "sub-par"

Now take amoment and understand that RMTs have/will level up in level 1 RSE with no subjob just fine. It just shows you how important gear really is. Sure great gear makes things easier, but you can still get by with far far less than whats expected.

I try and get gear together in advance of levelling so I put 'as often as possible'. Just because I like to level in ten level spurts and having things in advanced stops me getting confused and means I don't miss anything. Also means I tend to get a good price on what I want because I watch the markets on the things I want and get lucky sometimes with a low bid or a price fluctuation.

Don't be too quick to judge gear without a /check. That war tanking in leather might have Royal Footmans gear on, which is about equivalent to scale mail. That said, 9 times out of 10 it is just leather, and that WAR will die horribly.

Sometimes low level gear is the best, or only option for a long time (ie. most earrings, rings, belts, necklaces plus the expensive stuff like Peacock charm, Astral rings) and +1 gear can last for a lot longer. I often skip a set if I have the +1 of the previous, eg. I use my Bone +1 armour set past lvl 21 where Beetle armour becomes available for a couple of reasons. Firstly, while the defense slightly lower than the NQ beetle set, it adds evasion bonuses to even things out. Secondly, I use the Bone+1 in lvl 20 caps, whereas the beetle+1 set is fairly useless for 30 cap, so it's not worth keeping a set lying around.

Now that I have several jobs at lvl20 though, I'm going to buy the +1 beetle set anyway. I really just wish they let us store +1 equipment at the npcs, or I would have gotten a set long ago.

I was gonna post this is pet peeves but this seems a more suitable place to put it.

Partying in Yhoat, invite a SAM. Didnt check his gear, just partied for a bit till I noticed his normal hits were doing like 1-5 dmg. So I check him.

The highest piece of gear he had on was a lvl16 GK.

So I told him to sort it out and kicked him. Invited another SAM that was probably on-par DD wise as my DRK.

Next day, see the same SAM. Still in the same gear.

I will always check on wiki a few lvls ahead to see what I have coming gear wise that I would/should get. Sometimes I will ask LS or Forums, becuase there is normally a piece you always seem to miss that is really useful.

Upgrade when you need too, when something thats going to benefit your job becomes available. I usually have that stuff lieing around in my inventory a few levels prior though so Im prepared.

i lvl mainly tank jobs 1-12 was bronze subligar ect. I soloed all this
I traded in everything i farmed and crafted then scale mail.
As a tank I can ill afford to be gimpped so I now save for the gear I need.
The worst I have seen seen is a lvl 28 soloing worms in Qufim in lvl 10 gear
I was running past with my pld and he started I targeted him and his hp plummeted.It looked like steam mail but after the fight i examined him and laughed.Heres 20k get x,y and z gear i told him

I voted "every chance I get". I tend to have gear upgrades ready even five levels ahead.

what I do was not on your vote list ;p

I get all the gear I need for when I level in an area

like when I hit 10, I get all the gear I need for up to 20, then head off to dunes

or when I hit 21, I get all the gear I need for up to 25 for Quifm

26-32 for Kazham........you get the point ;p
