  • Want solo job? why?

Just recently, i felt why do every (non ffxi player mostly) want soloing job. Yet, many of these complain FFXI is doesn't provide enough solo content.

Do people ever realize FF's real theme is not about soloing? I mean every FF in general is base on partying. Well in the beginning, the main character either move alone for very little tiny abit then they start collect more members as the game progress.

Would a real solobility to FFXI (i mean easier...to solo from 1-75) ruin the image? Let's see some discussion going. Enlighten me ~.

P.S let's stick with the topic this time ok ... Don't judge how i play

Here's my thoughts. I think people request it because looking for partying or making one can be a big pain. This is online so you really need to depend on others. On the other FF games, you basically have a variety of jobs to choose from to make your own party by yourself and tend to your own business. I'm sure SE will not insert more soloing jobs than party-dependent. So far, Beastmaster and Puppetmaster are the only OFFICIAL solo jobs. Other people have discovered a few ways to solo on their own way with another job during some level ranges.

So basically, I think soloing is sometimes an escape to get away from people you have to depend on for experience. Lots of people want all kinds of types of jobs. They'd want more soloing jobs, more DD jobs, more tank jobs, more healer jobs, and more pet jobs. They're just so much that SE could only focus on one thing or the other first and then finally release a big update with a lot of information.

      Re: Want solo job? why?

      (1) You work 40 hours or more a week, you come home and play FFXI to unwind. You log in and wait for an hour for an invite. You run a search to see about 20 other melees your level seeking. You're a melee, too. Hell competition

So that's one hour down the tubes.

So you try to make a PT. Maybe you succeed, maybe not. Maybe RDM, BRD or COR aren't available. Maybe you can't find a tank. Maybe to take a full PT to three different camps and can't space for your PT in them. Maybe the BRD is a primadonna and won't PT with anything less than WARx4 and WHM. Take any worst case scenario.

If you're a support, tank or healing class you're very much needed and you tend not to deal with the aggravation the life of a 50+ melee has to endure. But, its stuff like this - sometimes happening one night after the next, that makes you want solo content.

      (2) You've found PTing, while fun and a fast way to progress, doesn't a help you amass as much gil and beastmen/KS as you like. If you could beat these monsters on your own in a reasonable amount of time and can gain EXP and loot while doing it - BONUS! Self-sufficiency: another reason to solo.

      (3) You're tired of the beaten path. You want a real challenge. You've done Valkrum >Quifm> Yuthunga/Yhoat > GC > CN > QC > Kuftal to ToA zones ad nausium. Over and over again. You want to EXP in Attowah Chasm, you want to EXP in Site Riverne #0A1. Yet no one ever wants to go off that beaten path.

      Solution

      Solo.

These are just a handful of reasons why people want solo content, there's quite a few other reasons. Some people come from the PC gaming background and just aren't interested in partaking of the party-based, cinematic trappings of a Final Fantasy game. Its thier $12.95 a month and they've a right to be heard.

I usually have a soloable job or two to have a means of farming and EXPing on my own. My Taru has more solo jobs than I can really bother to continue with. BST move up, others stay behind. Its a hard life on BST, but it makes good gil doing it. BLU is my soloable job on my mithra, its also a good money job and feels good to be self-sufficient.

Most of my other jobs are party-dependant. Endgame is party-dependant. Every now and again, its nice to away from that and progress on your own.

        Re: Want solo job? why?

I actually think FFXI suffers from the "hand-holding" syndrome. There are so many things that can be soloed, but people refuse to do so.

        Mission 2-3 dragon fight, soloable!
G-3 Soloable! Just gotta be fast for that door or duo it if you aren't fast enough!
There are many things that are soloable but people would rather get a free ride from a level 75.

Any job can level to 75 solo without /BST. People refuse to solo level because its easier to party. 1.5-2k/hr exp isn't bad for soloing. I soloed from level 54 to 59 on my DRK this way.

Best part about soloing is having PTs show up and telling you to get out of "their" spot.

          Re: Want solo job? why?

I like the challenges of a one on one fight especially when the tables turn and I'm in trouble. I guess it's more thrilling to know that only you stand between victory and defeat. Death is much scarier and more painful when soloing, compared to a party where a crappy tank or lazy healer just gets me irritated, not trembling in mortal fear. It definitely keeps you on your toes, while in a party I can often become the crappy tank or lousy healer just through the dull repetitive nature of the party style.

Simply, soloing isn't about the seals or gil for me, it's all about the adrenalin.

yeah Soloing is pretty much a nice option for when you dont feel like dealing with others ;p

We all have had those days am I right? Right now I am leveling PUP, and I wait 30 mins for a PT, if I dont get one, I go and solo till I get a PT. You can do it, but people jsut refuse to, even now that they made those changes to when you fight EP-EM, its easier to fight that range of monster now. Yeah you have to have signet, but thats not really a problem.

Soloing in this game belongs just as much as partying, imo.

Its doing what you enjoy that makes this a *game*. If you enjoy soloing, then why not?

Ok so its an MMO - that doesnt mean however that you have to interact with other people playing ALL the time to get anything done though.

                    Mission 2-3 dragon fight, soloable!
Sure- if you have tons of gil to spend, very good equipment, and have a very good plan and experience with what the fight is like. *not for a first time player*

G-3 Soloable! Just gotta be fast for that door or duo it if you aren't fast enough!
As someone who solo'd G3, I don't think it's possible without Flee or a hermes quencher- which again is a lot of money.

Srsly; partying is fine, but people need to be able to do things for themselves. Nobody is asking to get relic from solo BCNMs. People want to be able to progress their character EASILY AND REASONABLY without relying on a party. A few thousand EXP a night is barely acceptable. having to spend a lot of gil on items is unacceptable.

                      Re: Want solo job? why?

Soloing isn't necessarily playing alone either. I may be the only one in the zone, fighting away at the mobs as a Beastmaster with my trusty pet but that doesn't mean I'm not chatting on my linkshell with my friends.

Doesn't mean I'm not synthing the items I find so I can take part in the community Auction House either.

And it doesn't mean I won't run over and help out that guy 8 levels under me who got aggro while trying to get back home.

Those are all taking part in the "Massively Multi-Player" aspect of FFXI and represent things you can't do in a single player game.

                          Re: Want solo job? why?

Want a solo job? No, I love whitemage from the bottom of my soul upwards. I already have what, fifteen other jobs, and not an iota of interest in playing them? I haven't the right to ask for more from SE.

For me, soloing on whitemage used to be an art, something I did for the challenge, for the recreational value it had, and for bragging rights. Which I probably overused.

Unfortunately, somehow, things changed when I hit 75. My whitemage stopped getting invites. I can't figure it out. Everyone I talk to says they need either whm or rdm in their merit pts, and that rdm is never available. There aren't that many other 75whms competing with me. My gear isn't shitty, and I don't THINK I play the job poorly. I try hard not to be an asshole to anyone.

Yet... put my seek flag up for two months straight without a single invite.

I don't bother seeking anymore, I've decided that for some reason, whatever reason, people aren't going to invite me. I dont' know why and I wish I did, but....thems the breaks.

I can make 2k an hour soloing buffalos in Ulgerland range, without my npc. If I had all day and all night to play ffxi this wouldn't be a problem. But I don't. I have a few hours a day.

Getting my full regen merits has become a grueling endurance test.

What do I want SE to do about it? I'm not sure. I know it would help if I could use devotion on myself. Perhaps there will be a patch saying, in the absence of other pt members, these types of non-self-targetable spells and abilities will become self-usable?

Maybe make NPC gear more customizeable? Mine is of limited use to me. If he outdamages me, he pulls hate and becomes a mp sink, requiring me to stop and rest more, and slowing me down. If he doesn't outdamage me...well...I'm a freakin whm.

I can't regen him. I don't need a healer and his defense is so retarded low in comparison to mine, I don't want to set him on shield mode because he'll get murdered.

Honestly, I don't have the answers to any questions except why people might be wanting more solo jobs lately:

Because getting a party can be impossible.

However, one my focus point is ... will making soloable gameplay actually ruin the image of party system of FFXI. The end game require alot partying and some mission really does.

I think personally that the party system set up for leveling is actually unique compare to many mmorpg. Since the game set up with class having a strong roles and there are party combination such as the ever forgotten skillchain renkai and magic bursts. These are not too useful at the start of the game hence making people forgot about them.

Not at all. Simple solution, add solo mobs. lower HP and damage, and have the exp change if you're in a party or not. If you're in a party, exp would be extremely low off them, similar to a solo player attacking party (any) mobs now.

Doesn't effect PTs or missions in any way, and allows people to solo well.

Just have a mix of monsters, and have the color of the monster change depending on what type it is. For example, if you're in solo mode on your party display window, the solo monsters will have white names, and the party monsters will have red ones, and vice versa for when you're in party mode. Of course, both types will still aggro, so if you're passing through a high level area by yourself, you have to be careful not to attract party mobs just as you do now.

These are not too useful at the start of the game hence making people forgot about them.
wrong. the reason SCMB is less popular now is beacause of TPPT in higher levels. Not to mention that SE intended for the SCMB system to be a random thing that just sorta happens, more than a strategy (that's basically a quote, but I'm not going to look it up)
