      Re: Want solo job? why?

The problem with most people is that FFXI is a different style MMO then most English players are used to. Games like FFXI, Ragnorok, Pirates Tale, Rose online, and FlyFF are all Asian style MMOs. WoW, Everquest1&2, Dark Age of Comolot, and SWG are all American style. They all have a different playing style that cater to different groups.

The only real difference between FFXI and most American MMOs is that FFXI has much more of a grind. Other than that, FFXI is closer to American MMOs than Asian ones imo.

Wow, I had a whole post lined up in response to whm/pld, then I read the thread and saw that this degenerated into a poofight.

yeah FFXI is a bit of a mix of both styles, but its that grinding aspect, that most USA are not used to, it does not bother me, but its why my other three friends quit...and you can guess what they went to.....I tried going with them, but I found it to be boring compared to FF and came back.

Thing is though, I've never seen a grindfest MMO that doesn't allow or even encourage you to solo =/

Obviously F2P KMMOS show that people don't mind huge grinds, as long as they're entertaining. Waiting hours for a party, if you ever get one, is not most people's idea of entertaining.

yeah I agree with you there, but then that just brings up the whole soloing argument all over again ;p

at least one job, that when subed, would allow pretty much any jobs to solo at least EV would be interesting.

Desire to get a party does not equate to ability to get a party. We're talking about when you WANT a party but they don't want you for whatever reason.

Well, quite a few people are doing that obviously. Telling people "Well, we could do something, but we'd rather not" is basically the same as saying "Well, we could get hundreds of dollars out of you, but we'd rather not" for SE.

                      Crafting? Fishing? Farming?
Because A- not everyone likes HELM type stuff, and B- They don't really advance your character.

During my 3.5 years of playing this game, the last 2 years has been limited to only having a small amount of time here and there to play. Most of that has been poored into gardening and crafting. I'm at a point now where I have more gil than I need.

So when I log in and have time to actually play this game, I don't want to spend it doing stuff like crafting, fishing or farming. I want to actually make progress, and not spend what little play time I have in my schedule just sitting around LFG. That's why I started soloing as BST a year and a half ago.

It's not that I don't want to party. It's just that I don't want all the hassle that's associated with joining a party. I have to spend time seeking for a party, and then once I join there's no guarantee the party will actually get started right away (it usually takes a half hour to get everyone moving toward the camp). When I need to leave the party, I have to worry about giving the party some kind of notice, or find myself a replacement and then wait for the replacement to arrive.

When I solo, I don't have to worry about any of that. And because I can stop exp'ing whenever I want, it actually makes it easier for me to take advantage of the community oriented parts of the game. If my friend wants my help to learn some Blue Magic, I'm not tied to some party that I've already invested a bunch of time (and thus feel the need to make the most out of the opportunity).

Nobody is preaching to make soloing better than party exp, people just want the OPTION to solo so they can kill an hour if they need to. If I had to wait 2 hours for a party invite and was NOT in the crafting mood(honestly, the minute I get all my craft stuff out and go to wherever it is I'm gonna go is the moment I get an invite and have to go get my party gear, which pissed me off to no end when I was an active player of FFXI) I'd like to make some leveling progression, even if it only got me some bonus exp to cover the exp loss from dieing.

The option to solo or duo already exists and anyone can do that. More than half of the jobs in the game are capable of soloing EM or higher. You just have to get the tools to do so out of the subjob system to make it work.

I'm sorry, but SE can't patch your lack of initiative or intelligence.

Seriously, what do you think the adjustment to Signet was? To make smaller parties and soloing more practical, in addition to negating TP loss on resting for melee. Any soloist will sing you the praises of that adjustment. The +hHP buff alone on it is insane.

Oh and NPCs fellows, as much as I don't care for them, you put in the work and they help make a solo player function more viable, who woulda thunk? Yes, you have to level them, meaning, SE wants you to earn it.

                              Re: Want solo job? why?

I wish soloing xp was much better, I mean if a party can make 10-20k xp/hr then you should be able to make at least 50% of that to make some progress even if your play time is limited.

Sadly the max xp/hr I've been able to get soloing is 4k-ish with xp ring. That was soloing as DRK but only at lower lvls. At higher lvls you get really bad xp/hr rates soloing, and even as a BST I've heard the xp isn't that good.

One way to help this would be removing xp penalty from having your NPC out when soloing, and reducing it when duoing (maybe 15% instead of 30%); if there's 3 people in your party or more then xp penalty should apply as usual.

Also, letting NPCs level all the way to 75 would be very helpful too because from lvl 60 you start needing much more xp and soloing becomes even less viable.

BST can solo to 3-5k per hour at times, it ebbs and flows as your prey changes. Keep in mind BST can also EXP in many places other jobs couldn't function so well it.

BLU seems to get about the same EXP or higher. BLM seems to get a little more solo.

Each one is kinda offset by various factors. BST will never have to rely on anyone but himself, but eventually BLU will have to seek aid to learn new spells and BLM has nothing to protect them like RDM, BLU and BST do. Even THF can has a better chance at survival without access to cures than a BLM does with them, Bloody bolts do the job well from what I've seen THFs pull off. And while THF EXP isn't as stellar as the rest, there is the money.
