  • Long Story: Question at End

To cut a very long story short (although it still seems long), for some reason, there is this one person on my server (and I'm not naming names) who has it in for me, I have no clue why. Well anyways, they got me kicked from linkshells, and friends of mine stopped talking to me because they started spreading lies about me. I didn't really care at that point because I just figured if those people really believed all of it I didn't want them as friends anyway.
But now it's getting out of hand, I've been kicked from parties because people have "heard" stuff about me. One of the main rumours is I'm some little rich girl who spends all her Daddy's money on gil (so wrong on so many levels it made me laugh) but the amount of people that have actually believed this is getting stupid. Not only that but the other day I had some random /telling me the other day going to my delivery box, when I asked why, they were saying "delivery", when I asked what delivery, they said "gil". After a very long talk with this person, which was hard seeing as their english was not great, I explained to them I had not ordered any gil and did not want their gil. He logged. I think he was called Chocko or something, I thought it could of been a friend on a mule playing a joke but it got too detailed, the person was like asking if I used their site and if I was on my own account and stuff and when I asked if he had the right name he said he did. Although I have no proof I'm pretty sure it was "that person" behind it, although really they just wasted their money. I presume they expected me to take it and then call a GM and report it? I'm not sure but whatever it was, it didn't work.
Now although I realise nothing can be done to make people on Sylph believe otherwise and I just have to take the random /tells I get from people flaming me I was wondering if there was anything I could do about that one person? I didn't know if a GM could do anything, I don't have any proof they did the RMT order but I have had /tells from friends of "that person" admitting that they had been spreading the rumours and such and maybe they could check the logs and have something done about that? I realise it's highly unlikely but I'm getting pretty desperate here.

That really sucks. Unfortunately, I'm not to sure that there is much you can do about someone spreading rumors about you like that. A GM would probably suggest that you /blacklist the person, but that's not really going to stop the slander.

Yeah I figured as much >_< I blacklisted them and even considered moving servers but I still have some close friends on Sylph and don't want to leave them.

That was going to be my other suggestion. The upside to changing servers is that you could change your name as well (by creating a mule with that name before your transfer). Of course, then people might really think you had something to hide. But as a last resort...

You should have reported the player sending you tells. You could have told the GM you suspected this was another player and an inquiry might have been made. Either way they would have read the log and marked the account of the person bugging you on suspision of RMT.

A lot of times the GMs don't tell you how things end, so you wouldn't have ever known what came of it. If they keep bugging you, keep reporting them. Those marks add up.

Hmm.. didn't think of changing my name but it would really suck to have to change my name because of all of some rumours... Guess I'll just have to take a drastic measure of moving/ name changing or just take whatever comes at me.

Only thing I can think of is speaking to a GM about this. I don't know if you can exactly make a report but once you get the GM talking most can be very helpfull with suggestions as to how to handle the situation.

As for being kicked out of LS and stuff, geesh, you'd think people wouldn't do that without proof or something first -.-

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

I didn't know that >_< I reported most of the really nasty /tells and the reply was to just black list them, which I did. But after awhile I stopped reporting them and just blacklisted them.

Yeah I wouldn't of believed it a few months back but now I think I'll believe people are just about capable of anything in this game.

Pretty ridiculous all around. I mean, I've been in an LS with suspected gil buyers before, but without hard proof we weren't going to just kick the person out.

Yeah, every other linkshell I know has always gone by this rule too, everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. But I think in the case of the linkshell I was kicked from it was more that "that person" knew the leader and told them they knew for a fact I bought gil. Since he knew them he probably didn't doubt them, and once the leader knew, the officers knew, the other members heard and I got kicked when I next logged in. That's the grape vine for you I guess.

Edit: The other link I was kicked from was co-run by "that person" so it just stands to reason I'd be kicked when they started up their personal vendetta from nowhere.

I think a lot of people buy gil. I tried not to, but I stopped caring a while back. People seem to handle their money a lot better these days.

Re: Long Story: Question at End

I wouldn't be annoyed if it was half true but I don't buy gil and personally I don't give a damn for the person who does. I don't go on some major witch hunt for them so it's just irritating that there's so many people who think because they've "heard" I'm a gilbuyer they have to track me down and spam me with pathetic /tells and spread the rumour further.

Personally, I find that gil is easy enough to make without buying it. If I had a lot of disposable income I might be tempted tho.

This sounds like a really crappy spot you are in right now. I don't think I would move servers. Thats basically what that person wants from you. There are a lot of people on your server, just try and stay away from the ones that idiots lol.

When gilbuying first happened in this game, I thought it wouldn't last. Seriously, spending money on fake game money sounded ridiculous. I really thought gill sellers were a joke at first.
                              Thanks Kazuki.
