Ma'at was a female Egyptian goddess. Maat is a Jeunoian fisherman. SE has nearly always in the past picked the cool bits of mythology out for their games, ignoring most of the rest of it.
I know and liked how SE kinda of followed a mythology point but mixed it up in a whole new array...And so i was looking for some pics for WoTG on google and came across Ma'at. thought i'd post a question if there was any relation to the fisherman and the goddess.

I agree, take a look at Charbydis, who was supposd to be a giant whirlpool of a monster not some puny octopus >_> Not to mention Charbydis is always linked to Scylla, hence the phrase "Between Scylla and Charbydis" so if SE actually took note of mythology they would of shoved Scylla somewhere in the grotto.
I could wonder why Fenrir was a tigerish-lookng Behemoth-type mob in FFXII, but its a fantasy game, I'm not going to lose much sleep over it. There is plenty of gender-bending in other RPGs that draw off of various mythological archtypes.
Maat and Ma'at have very little in common. Ever consider the possibility that Maat wasn't inspired by her?
I really do believe he was. He judges your strength and skill to see if you are worthy and she judges your life and choices to see if you are worthy for the afterlife.
But we all know they don't follow things right. Alexander...Catoblepas (at least they still petrify)...Manticores.
Why are Elvaans stupid when Elves are suppose to be smart and magical?

but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.
