  • What would you do?

    Hello All,

I came across a problem yesterday. As I am relatively new (3 months), I thought to seek your advise. So, I'm in Jueno with my flag up @ lv 32RDM/16WHM. After an hour of waiting for a pt in E Altepa, I gave up and came here. After having been in Jueno for 10 minutes, I get a tell for a pt. I ask if they have a full pt. They say yes, we need a RDM rep and we have a PL. I, of course, say yes. ONE SECOND later I get a tell from a LS member needing a PT member for E Altepa. I ask if he has a full pt. He replies yes, and we have a PL. Now, I just said yes 1 second prior to another guy (didn't know him). I felt that I should tell the first guy I had a LS member who needed me for a pt and I would have to go that route, which I ended up doing.

Do you think that was appropriate? By the way, the first guy took it very well.

First of all, I don't know why you were so excited about joining a party with a powerlevel in Altepa. If you need a PL at that level, you really suck. Hard.

    Like, a lot.

Also, I always join the party that I first accept the invite to. If my LS members see me seeking for a long time, and then finally ask me to join their party as a replacement at the last minute, then they obviously don't really need me (especially with a damn PL - does no one have any respect for their game anymore?).

The PL ended up being AFK anyway. And, in my/our defense, we didn't NEED one. It's always nice to have a backup though...

I always think it's just good manners to go with the first invite, you wouldn't of really had a problem if you said "yes" to the first, and then "I just got an invite" to the second, regardless of whether you knew them or not. First come, first served in my opinion.

A good party can back itself up. It doesn't need a PL standing by.

Yes, sometimes things go really wrong, and the party wipes. You pick yourselves up, learn from the situation, and move on.

PLs are like RMT, they're here to stay, there will inevitably be one somewhere in a pre-50 PT and you're choices are either to leave or deal with it, because there's a good chance the next PT you get could have one. People are weak and dependant, what can I say?

As far as the double invite thing - get used to it, its your decision to make. Random PT or LS PT? One of the best PTs I ever had I almost turned down and missed out on a chance to make friends. You never know.

I would have gone with the first invite. It sucks for your LS member but you already accepted the first one. I would have said to him/her (LS member) that if your party was the suXorz or it broke up soon, you'd join them if they still needed you, but I would have gone to the first invite anyway, and if your LS is friendly then they shouldn't mind too much.

I've also found that sometimes those random parties are better than LS parties. I don't know why some people think that because they know you they can slack off, but they do. Sometimes.

I don't know a diplomatic way of saying this, but once you've accepted an invite, you're obligated to join. To back out without a good reason (such as unreasonable long delay in getting started, missing key member for long time, etc.), makes you a jerk. =/

                      Re: What would you do?

Put yourself in the place of the party leader (or whoever it was that asked you to join their party). How would you feel if someone accepted your invite, and then changed their mind shortly thereafter?

If I were that person, I would be mildly irritated at the least. I would probably take a mental note about that player, to try and avoid inviting them in the future.

I think pre-50 is setting the cutoff level for PL's a bit too high.

...unrelated note...I just found something I have GOT to bug Taskmage about.

Anyway. I was in Eastern Altepa Desert the other day, standing around as a 75 whm while lfp and hanging out with some friends who were leveling through their 30's. Of COURSE I tossed them a few cures. I wouldn't say I was a PL. I wasn't taking responsibility for the curing. I wasn't even doing it more than every two or three fights.

But while I was there, I saw three other pt's camped around us, and I was the only thing even remotely resembling a PL.

I never go to Kazaam, so I don't know the situation there, but running through quifm, I usually only see about one in three pt's having a PL, as opposed to valkrum dunes, where almost every pt has a PL SOMEWHERE, even if they're at the other end of the beach raising someone atm.

So if I joined a pt 37+ (IE not people leveling subjobs that they'll never play again) and there was a PL, I would think the worst and eject myself from the pt. There would be no "Oh...well...it's pre-G1..."
