sbind, voke, chiblast are my favorite ways to claim. personally, i like being able to be on the run. i hate having to stand still just to get your claim off because if you wait too long you might lose claim. too quick, and you'll interrupt yourself.

EES, Charm, Chi Blast and Provoke all have the same speed: instant.

Of course, there's range differences that'll give one the advantage over the other in situations where the pop can spawn in a wider area.

Don't forget Shadowbind and Quick Draw. The latter is called Quick Draw for a reason, ever seen a manteele BRD go into a rage because you can outclaim him in merits games with it? Its fun

I've never played the game on the keyboard, always had a Gamecube controller configured. I configured the yellow joystick for menu access, which also doubles up as the player/mob select function (, ie Tab on the keyboard). However if I move left of the joypad it will select mobs on my left, and visa versa.

This must also be possible on the keyboard, since the joypad is only configured to press a certain key combo on the keyboard. So whatever is used to go left/right in a menu (like mission menu) should also select mobs to your left and right, whereas I think Tab only works in 1 direction.

Also something else that I've accidentally found a couple of times now is when I'm typing in LS chat or similar, I've pressed some CTRL-combo by accident while trying to capitalise a letter, and a small control panel appears at the right edge of the text input line with 4 little icons in it. I don't seem to be able to replicate it when I try. Next time it appears I will click on the icons to see what they do.

Abilities have an edge over spells in that they don't have to stop moving to use an ability. Casting you have to be standing still, which is fine the mob only spawns in one place. Since I don't typically do whm/war or blm/war I resort to spells. I use one of the following macros:

/targetnpc
/ma Stun <t>

OR

/ma Stun <stnpc>

The first one is great if there are no other mobs in the area or if you don't care what you claim (ie competitive pulling at puddings or somthing) First line tragets the closest NPC and cast stun on it.

The second one is good for claiming something in a crowded room (ie moldy earry NM)

You hit that a purple arrow comes up, and you hit enter. Menu spamming may be quicker, just depends on surrounding lag if your macros are getting eatten in the transmission (won't work so well at something like Fafnir) It also doesn't matter if you are currently engaged or not as you can move or click on another target while engaged.
