  • Fastest Claim Method

And no bots, I would like to keep my account

Im not talking HNM style here, although I guess it counts.

So far I have been told Provoke, Stun, Steal, Mug, Dia, Flash, Chi Blast....

I was wondering, user reactions aside, if you lines these methods up head to head, which would win out?

Also consider factors where sometimes, I swear a mob gets claimed a split second before the voke animation - is this the case, or just me?

    Re: Fastest Claim Method

I use Provoke, works fine for me, and although I may be stating the obvious (but seriously some people don't realise this) don't tab around while you're waiting for it to pop, then see it pop and try and tab to it and voke. Use your mouse/controller/whatever to select it. Much faster than speed tabbing.

You say not staing the obvious....Iv always used Tab ._.

But yes that makes soooo much more sense. The only time I use a mouse is to pan the screen around at certain times, guess I forgot we can actually use it for selecting things!

Only reason I ask about other methods also is becuase as RDM, I dont really often sub WAR for Provoke...my fastest claim method is Dia I believe - but maybe subbing something else (like DRK for Stun) may actually give me a slightly better chance?

Flash or Stun, these work best because they have a short almost instant cast time so you tend to avoid the penalty

          Re: Fastest Claim Method

Provoke has to wait several seconds to actually work on the popped target because it's instant, this is to allow people claiming with magic (casting time hassle) a fair chance or some such. So you can start casting on a popped mob before you can voke it.

Eagle Eye Shot -> Charm <=> Chi Blast -> Provoke -> Dia/Stun/Poison, etc

That's the speed of claims, at least what I've been told. From personal experience, Chi Blast ftfw. I use it all the time, and it's awesomely fast. EES I believe is right, and it claims immediately, but the animation doesn't happen for a few seconds. Does that help you at all?

Well, I didnt know you can cast on a mob before voking it.

I feel all noobish again >< I never use the mouse for anything but panning around either so I have been tabbing too, and using dia instead of flash.

Personally speaking, even if I get dia out and the casting animation just starts before the other person provokes, I always lose claim to the provoker. Also there is that horrible thing that if you need to move into range with dia you have to stop and wait for that split second so that you don't interrupt which has lost me a few claims to people who can claim on the run, plus if you mess up you can't just keep mashing your macro, I think I remember being able to do that with provoke without a delay penalty.

That doesn't mean to say that all spells are better, Provoke is instant where as casting takes time that's why you can start casting first but it doesn't mean that Provoke won't beat you to claiming.

As for you guys who didn't know to click instead of tab, I don't think anyone realises until it's pointed out to them and then it seems stupidly obvious. A friend told me a couple of months back and I was just like "/slap self, why the hell didn't I think of that"

                    Edit: Forgot I was last poster, I should of tagged this onto the end of that one. >_<;

EES, Charm, Chi Blast and Provoke all have the same speed: instant.

Of course, there's range differences that'll give one the advantage over the other in situations where the pop can spawn in a wider area.

I don't use this but another friend of mine when camping uses this method:

When there are no other mobs around ( which isn't often when camping ) he uses F-8 to target it fast. But as I said it's not useful most of the time and it's still easier to click instead.

Ahh, I was told EES was the fastest, so that's good to know. I'd thing EES/Chi Blast would be the best, as you don't have to get as close to the mob to use them. But either way, at least now I know I won't lose to a RNG for sure. :]

And it's really usually not that bad claiming. I've beaten 4 other campers to VE with a R.Attk before...so just hope the other campers suck. :]

the claim penalty was added in response to complaints of mobs spawning purple on many player's screens.

it's a set time interval, so it can and will 'eat' spells too.

(I've had to resort to Dia II claiming before, which is an eternity in terms of claim speed)

as for targeting method: I use menu spam when the camp area is free, I pre-set tab to the immediate left of where I expect the spawn when the area is not.

mice are slow - but this could probably let you use a faster claiming tool with less risk of penalty.

sbind, voke, chiblast are my favorite ways to claim. personally, i like being able to be on the run. i hate having to stand still just to get your claim off because if you wait too long you might lose claim. too quick, and you'll interrupt yourself.
