You know, this makes me very glad I am happy with my DM earring choice (suppa), happy with my CoP Ring choice (tamas), and haven't actually done AN yet (trying to organise soon)

Right, how about you NOT FREAKING TOSS OUT YOUR EARRINGS ANYWAY? You're supposed to be careful with them, you should be GRATEFUL that SE is allowing you to recover them.
He got Abyssal for his blm way back in the day, which was his only 75. Now he's got nin and rng and blu at 75, and wanted a Suppa for those jobs instead. It's not like he "oh dur, dropped mah suppa" and wants to get it back.
Again, that's my point, if you don't toss out your earrings, you have no problem, if you do, it's your own fault. If you can't pick the right earring the first time, and you throw it out, it's your own problem. Like I said, SE for the past couple years hasn't let you get them back, I imagine there's a good number of people who have quit because of some late night inventory mishap, you should be happy they finally changed their minds on it.
Dm is very easy lol, you don't need lots of blms to win this. 12/14 on DM now I went 1/1. Tho i think you should have to fight Promethia again atleast for cop ring.

But Feba, you can't change them unless you drop them. The quest will not activate. You are creating a conundrum of emotion vs. reality.
Uhhuh, that's my point, don't freaking drop it and you won't have a freaking problem. It's your own damn fault, and like I said, you should be grateful that SE would let you redo it.
Feba, please understand me when I say this. I like you, and think you've a fantastic poster, but until you've completed Divine Might, you really have no idea what a tremendous pain in the ass it is to do unless you're in a full BLM alliance or have a VERY experienced high level LS.
That said, a lot of us picked our earrings a long time ago, long before anyone knew what any of the stats on the earrings really did (I have an Abyssal Earring, for instance), and while I don't mind redoing the quest, it's certainly going to be ... hmm... challenging.
And here I was hoping to swap to Suppa whenever I got tired of Bushi...
Thank you (and F-You) SE for this BS. Why didn't they just do the same thing they did with Rajas/Tamas/Satva? Go to sky, see Yve'noille and then get your earring and half to wait like say 1-2 months before you can do it again.
Ugh it's times like this I want to just shoot everyone @ SE -. -
Doing DM once was enough. Quit the BS. Why not just make us do all of CoP all over again for the rings instead of just going to the tavern while you're @ it SE?
I still don't think it was neccesary to make us repeat either quests. It's just more of SE's patented Grade-A screw-the-fanbase BS.
I think you need to take a break from FFXI. Or from these forums. Or both. That's way too much anger over an improvement to the game. And lets face it, it is an improvement. Even if you would have done things a different way had you been in charge of this update, this is something you had absolutely no way of doing before.

How dare he not pick the right earring for his BLU when he did the quest in 2004!
Heck, when I first did it, I hadn't leveled PLD at all, so there's no way I could pick the right earring for it. (Actually, I'm not sure which *is* the right earring for it; ordinarily I'd say that shield skill is much more valuable than sword skill, but there's also a lot more items that give it, while there are very few other options for more sword skill.)
Are you reading these posts at all before you throw them at the internets?

There's no doubt that it's an improvement, but your attitude is unnecessarily hostile. People sometimes change jobs, not just for a day, but on a more permanent basis, and what earring/ring is best for them changes along with those things. And they're not necessarily changes you can anticipate, especially when new jobs or changes to the battle system are involved. There's a big difference between +5 shield skill now and +5 shield skill 3 years ago. Potentially there could be just as big a difference between enhanced DW now and enhanced DW in a year when/if /NIN is finally balanced.

My point exactly. I chose Bushi because I want to see just how much I can trick out my SAM. However, lately I'm finding there are other jobs I'd like take to 75 as well, and it'd be nice to try them out with their respective earrings.
At least in the mean time I get +2 STR out of it for any other melee jobs. However, if say I wanted to be DRK, then Abyssal would be very much needed. +2 INT and +5 Scythe Skill is nuts, and beats the hell out of +2 STR.
While I do love a challenge, DM just isn't fun. Getting 18 skilled people (not to mention all the meds and crap) to do it is just as frustrating, if not more so than the actual fight. And now we have to get light ore on top of that? ......

And your point? It's meant to be a pain in the ass. My point is: Stop complaining about it being hard, and be happy that you can replace it at all. Really, bitching about this is like being brought back to life with a defibrillator and then bitching that you need to have surgery.

I agree in principle. The fact that we can choose again, however annoying the process might be, is a plus no matter how you look at it.
That said, it's NOT right to criticize people for choices they made years ago. People change, play styles change, and understanding changes over time. I'm probably going to get around to changing my earring one of these days to Suppanomimi because I never use my Abyssal; are you going to criticize me when I choose to drop my Abyssal because I made the choice way back when my only job over 70 was White Mage?

but that's a matter of opinion and emotion, not an actual part of the quest. there are experience points, there are limit points, there are not greatefulness points.
