6-7GB. 9 should be enough but thats really cutting some things close.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

I'm pretty sure you already asked this question in another thread you started. It was answered here.

8.01 GB (8,610,399,616 bytes) shown on mine but it may have a little of screen shot etc. 9GB may just be enough or not.

This will depend on how many expansions you have. 9GB is cutting it very close, I was personally up to about 8.6GB, when WTG comes out this winter you will most likely not have any space left. If you don't have any room left on your computer, consider getting a flash drive or two and off loading some pictures or music that you don't access often. 2GB of USB goodness is only about 15-20$ if you go cheap.

I just found these in the other link which "Ameroth" posted (above) and felt the need to comment on it.

Hey..... that sounds rather nice! I never knew this til now!
              Wow!

When I first started, I didn't get to choose what server I wanted to play on.
I was just randomly placed on Fenrir. /sigh! It's not really a bad server to play on though, and I have already made contact with players who have been friendly and helpful throughout. I just wish they (S.E.) had introduced this "pick your favourite server" option a bit more sooner really. I would have preferred to be free to be able to choose which one I wanted to play on instead of being dropped in at random. I guess I don't have anything to lose with the way things are going right now though.

Having said that, I just have one question.
What happens if you want to change to another server now?

A while back, I went through dialogue with an NPC in Bastok, (roughly about 3 or 4 years ago, something thereabouts) and I think it was asking me if I wanted a world pass to another server. I got halfway through making my decision, when to my surprise..... about a year or two later, another player called me up from another server and we started talking about stuff. I was a little shocked at the time, cause we didn't even know each other, and I wasn't even aware that anyone could do that across the servers, and still don't know how it's done either.
It was an even further surprise that we live quite locally too!
I thought.... WOW! Two surprises in one day! Haven't really met though.

              Anyway, moving on a bit.
If I wanted to jump to this other server to go see my ingame friend there, what would happen? Would I still need a buddy pass? Or is it pretty much likely that you would have to start all over again with a new character?

You can't. Not yet, anyway, until S-E implements the "migration for fee" or have another World Migration event (to balance population) like the one you've seen before, which did not require real world money. (Not sure about Gil, though.)

                You have two options, basically:
                1. Wait until "migration for fee" is implemented, and pay Real World Money to move your character. (~$30? I forgot.)
                2. Start a new character (pay a dollar more per month) on your friend's World now.
