Re: bought the DvD collection, no dvd rom!

So what's wrong if I feel shitty about this? I'm a normal person, I have emotions, ok? And don't generalize the whole mod team just because of what I said.
My point about it being light is that you can pull it off and take it with you easily when you travel.
Installing the DVD drive and pulling it off doesn't take more than 5 minutes. You can put it on the new build easily.
It's almost as easy as pulling off a shoe lace from your old shoe and put it on a new shoe.

Well, ok, shoe lace probably will take more time.

If I'm talking to a total computer illeterate person then I can understand installing DVD drive may not be easy. But for a PC gamer this shouldn't be the case.

Re: bought the DvD collection, no dvd rom!

Necro, I think you're the one who's not getting it.

That is why we're saying TAKE IT WITH YOU. You're going to end up buying one anyway, and it will save you money in the long run because even if you go though dell to buy your computer, or where ever you may, you can opt to not get one with a DVD drive in it, and save alot of money. We may seem like assholes who are just pushing out one answer, and tehre's a reason for it I guess I shall list them for you again. We answered her question in more ways then one. Some of us listed ways to get it.

      Reaons to spend ~15$+shipping on a DVD-ROM
      1) Most new games are shipping on DVD only, not only does this improve install time (DVD's have better transfer rate, and more data storage), it also save sthe company money because games are getting so large, multiple CD's are needed. A game like F.E.A.R. (pretty short game), still had 5CD's to install from unless you got the DVD Version

      2) They are cheap, and the OP wants to save money, so by getting a DVD-ROM drive now, they are saving money in the long run (they weigh 2 pounds at the most) because they won't have to make that purchase (most computer builders don't use DVD-ROM anymore, they use DVD-RW/DL which cost about 90$, if you get lightscribe, that's another 20-40$).

      3) No.

Glad to see even the moderation team at this site has gone to shit and joins in with the other posters. Suppose this is the new killing ifrit site, perhaps a a new forum will open up with the expansion or something and provide a fresh start from people. Certainly hope they don't get more moderation members like this site has had in the past few months.
To OP, I certainly don't think the general populace of FFXI is as it seems here, and certainly hope you find a good group of friends and enjoy the game, however you install it.
And as we've stated many times, a DVD drive is not an investment that would be lost when she moves and gets a new computer. It would be very easy to take the device with her and install it in the new machine.

And, I'm sorry .. a member of the moderation team has an opinion that disagrees with yours and the site has "gone to shit"? You're even worse than the caricaturization of the other posters on the site. Pretty much "you're stupid, I'm right, and this whole site sucks because everyone doesn't see it my way." Good luck on finding that happy place on the internet where everyone agrees with you.

Necro, if you don't like people pointing out the obvious, don't argue with their solutions. And if you don't like these forums or their moderation, leave, we aren't exactly dying to keep you around.

And seriously, there's plenty you can do with a DVD drive, even if you don't use it every day.

It's like ToAU release day again.

The OP bought a game that is now distributed only on DVD. There is no good reason for them not to get a DVD drive for their computer.

I wonder if it's going to be like this again in December (WotG release).
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Re: bought the DvD collection, no dvd rom!

geez, im sorry I brought it up in the first place. Necro is right, I asked for the alternative. There isnt one, as I called customer service. So a mod could plz delete this thread as it didnt help me and is sure not to help others who come asking the same question.

The amazing thing about it is, I asked the same question in the Vanguard community shortly before its release and I had some beta testers take some time out, explain where and how to download the beta files, and how to patch it to live after release. I was never told to go out and invest in a drive. Granted, downloading the files via digital download are not an option with FF11, I get that. Thats all I wanted to know.

Believe it or not, I too see the obvious option to not being able to run DVDs on a machine is to buy a DVD drive. However, I also recognize that unless its an online game, Im going to torrent it anyways, and run it from my convenient "invisible" drive. So yes, honestly, a dvd drive will only benefit me for this one game... as the next online game Im going to play, Conan, will be out after I build a new machine. Even though I did, I dont have to justify as to why I dont have one, nor why I will not get one. Frankly, I made the mistake in saying why... because subsequent posts were dedicated to dissecting my life with speculation as to things like whether or not im lazy, or unable to afford a 15 dollar drive. Its none of your business, and has no relevance to the original question.

Online games, for me, are defined mostly though those who play it. Its what causes people to hate games like WoW and Vanguard (pvp), members of the same team, community, at each other's throats over retarded issues not even worth their time of day. All because , what? Its the internet and its protecting your identity so therefore let the condescending, sarcastic, rude remarks fly.

Its clear to me what the FF11 community is like. And this is why the drive would be a waste: Im not going to play this game, not with this type of community. And you all should be ashamed that you have defined FF11 players as you have.

                  good luck.

Well I don't see why these companies don't distribute games on floppies for legacy users!

Seriously, SE, you need to support your fanbase even if they aren't up to date!

Wow, you're a disgrace. Unless it's an online game you torrent the game? GTFO seroiusly. It's illegal, and if I ever knew who you would I'd kill your computer so you can't rip more people off.

Being an ex-computer science major who wanted to be a developer, you don't udnerstand how much this hurts people.

Please, leave the forums and never post here again.

I know this sounds horrible but good riddence, uninstall the game, destroy your DVD, cut up your reg codes and we hope to never see you again honestly. You rip off game companies with your Torrents. G T F O.

                          b) You came into contact with a tiny group of players, too small to make any decision about the player base on.

                          c) I don't represent anyone, and neither does anyone else here. No one here has to be diplomatic, we don't push or sell the game. I won't be ashamed of anything, and it's almost comical you think anyone here should be.

Are you pirating all the games you play? >_< That's pretty sick if it's true. Game developers/QA's are some of the lowest paid people in the computer industry. Have a heart, pay for what you play. =/
