    I use the tab key to just auto-translate the crafts ;-)

      Re: Crafts

      I believe the .dat that stores auto translate info has direct translations. This should be better than the language you get from players, since it's the official game lingo, and not just something that means the same thing or similar. (Like, Carpentry and Woodcrafting might be the same, but the second term is much more familiar)

        Auto-Translator: In Depth

        Search for "Woodworking", etc.
        Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
        yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
        Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
        leaving no trace in the water.

          From the Wikipedia "auto-translator" site:

          Woodworking "mokkou" 木工
          Clothcraft "saihou" 裁縫
          Alchemy "renkinjutsu" 錬金術
          Fishing "tsuri" 釣り
          Bonecraft "honezaiku" 骨細工
          Goldsmithing "choukin" 彫金
          Smithing "kaji" 鍛冶
          Cooking "chouri" 調理

          Couldn't find "chocobo digging" though.

            Re: Crafts

            Hmm, thanks for the help but Im looking more for the single symbols that people use instead of the entire word. 木, would that be understood as woodworking?

              Re: Crafts

              Litteral translations by Babelfish:

              Woodworking = 木工 = Carpenter
              木 = Wood 工 = Manufacture

              Clothcraft = 裁縫 = Needlework
              裁 = Cutting/deciding 縫 = Sewing

              Alchemy = 錬金術 = Alchemy
              錬 = ? 金 = Gold 術 = Technique

              Fishing = 釣り = Fishing
              釣 = ? り = ?

              Bonecraft = 骨細工 = Bone workmanship
              骨 = Bone 細 = Detail 工 = Manufacture

              Goldsmithing = 彫金 = Metal-carving
              彫 = ? 金 = Gold

              Smithing = 鍛冶 = Smithery
              鍛 = Train 冶 = ?

              Cooking = 調理 = Cooking
              調 = Pitch 理 = Reason

              I don't know if it's save to say to use the first letters. Maybe the Japanese abbreviate it though. I suggest checking in-game what symbols they use, and compare them to these.
