    Re: Expanision: Histroy lesson

I'd love to see Sauromugue Champaign in its former glory, including Garliage Citadel. Thanks the only one I can really think of that interests me (but I haven't explored a lot of expansion areas).

there are huge possibilities for this expansion...i'm kind guessing if we're able to go back and forth from present to past and past to present...it might mean a closing to FFXI expansions...simply because really what is left after this? is there alot of "unknown" FFXI material besides the completion of ToAU and any other additions to the expansions? I'm not saying that SE are closing the servers but an end to any expansions. I be there will be more mini-games to come and of course seasonal events and aniversaries.
Each Beastmen had a different history

Yagudo have always been aggressive, they're religious fanatics who feel their word is the only word and will spread it at any cost. Goblins and Moblins are traders and merchants by nature, having very little in origanized structure, so they'll attack anyone or anything if they think it can benefiet them. Orcs are the most aggressive, a highly militaristic army that lives to fight and conquer. They're originally from the northlands, their stronghold in Davoi came after they conquered it from the Elvaan. Quadav were actually the most peaceful and technilogically advanced of the beastmen races, their previous king was a wise and honorable leader who helped them prosper under his leadership, even years after his death. For a time they even allied with Elvaan tribes against Windurst's armies and were most hospitible to the Hume explorer who left those stone monuments. It wasn't until Bastok's greed caused them to start mining the Quadav's ancient, sacred birthing grounds, Palborough Mines, that the Quadav really became hostile.

Sahagin are just crotchedy old hermits, who though wanted nothing to do with the war, were forced into servitude but did very little. Tonberry's are a vindictful, ancient race who just hates everyone because of what made them what they are. Antican are insects, single minded and follow their queen. They do their tasks and spread their territories. Gigas were savage, unintelligent beastmen who were brought over from the northlands with the Orcs to serve in the war. And Demons, aka Kindred, are said to have been created by the Shadow Lord himself to do his bidding and lead his armies.

And to answer some other questions:
Garilage Citidel was a windurstan outpost iirc that was used in the war with Sandy. While in a battle, they were losing ground, so they fled the citidel, lured the Elvaan inside then destroyed it on top of them burrying them alive inside. And Gusgen mines was a highly popular mining spot back in the day for bastok, often becoming over crowded with people, and one day there was a massive cave in and all were trapped/killed within it. Hence why it's haunted as it is.

And for areas that can still be explored: Far East(asian places), the Northlands(home of Gigas and Orcs), the Islands to the South (true home of the mithra) and the far west (native american-ish place).

There's still a LOT of stuff for SE to use in expansions. But one of the biggest complainst about the last expansion was that people felt SE was 'ignoring' the old areas. Despite SE saying that when they finish working on ToAU content they'll fix the old problems, people still complained. But now we can see that when toAU is finally over, SE will infact do some major work on the original world this game started with. Despite it's region map being 'complete' and Adventurers conquering the strongest mobs high in the sky, deep under sea or walking the earth, SE is going to add more to the central lands, and that was totally unexpected.

I mean we already have alternate universes, flying cities, and lost underwater continents, I don't see Time Travel being too big of a deal.

But one thing I've noticed about that is that SE is definately listening. They're adding and changing things based directly on stuff we the player base have suggested. Whether that's good or bad is a matter of opinion but no one can say SE isn't listening anymore.

; ; I think it would be cool if the Zilart could rebuild Altieu, or form a new city in the sky that people could go to and from freely but that's just not going to happen dang it =/

Also, I remember reading somewhere that the Shadow Lord recruited the demons from the very depths of hell. I forget if that was in-game or from the Tribune (oh how I miss the tribune)

That's interesting, I thought it was an elvaan outpost. Makes more sense this way. I'd like to know how the taru were so stupid as to build a series of complex one-way doors. >_ >b

Finally, damn you bastok, for being the root of (or at least at the center of) so many of Vana'diel's woes ><

They weren't stupid. Bottlenecking is war strategy and they have Warp on their side. Prideful Elvaan didn't want to learn black magic, serves em right.

That's not bottlenecking, it's just bad architecture. Having a door only open from one side is utterly retarded, especially if there's a rear entrance. It didn't happen this way of course, but if the elvaan had come in through the back, the taru would have had nowhere to run. My military friend agrees with me on this too.

And where does it say they didn't learn black magic? I recall reading that magic was widespread among their soldiers bolstering their military strength until their eventual fall to Bastok's guns. This was from SE (I forget where exactly, was either POL.com or the tribune) and that article never singled out any particular kind of magic, it just said that after the taru learned magic from the yagudo I believe it was, it spread across the world.

EDIT: Okay, it IS bottlenecking (and only because the elves didn't charge through the back, I refuse to edit my defiant wording ^^) but my point reminds valid in that it's a retarded position to be in with a one-way door.

What should happen in that scenario, is after forcing them through their retarded one-way door, secure that rear exit and just wait for them to starve to death (Or kill them off as they charge through that opening if they're mad enough)

It didn't happen that way, but it should have. Ah well.

I'm fairly sure it was a San d'Orian fortress, it makes much more sense if you look at the fact that it's made out of masonry and not wood, the style is very much more Elvaan than Taru, who tend to build from natural materials such as wood.

The way I remember it was that it was a San d'Orian fortress, three taru mages snuck in at night, freed the chocobos from their stables, and used the resulting chaos to destroy Garlaige, and everyone in it.

Keep in mind that even though the doors appear to be one way, Garlaige is almost entirely destroyed know. Look at the promo vid for WTG, it's fairly obvious that it used to be much bigger. It's fairly likely there were other ways to get around. Also, the rather... unfinished basement... seems to suggest that Garlaige's construction wasn't complete, or that damage was significant enough to destroy an entire floor... although, looking at the tunnels and the general shape, that seems unlikely. For all we know, the doors were added after the war in order to prevent lone adventurers from walking to their doom.

About the doors i think you are looking at them the wrong way, the side you cant open i more likely the front. If you look at the walls it seems the way we come in was the court yard and the doors could only be opened from the inside (smart idea ever heard of drawbridges?)

                                It was a poor attempt at it IMO. I don't know how to articulate it, but I'm going by how you structured your argument. Though you are right, conveying sarcasm through text (especially the internet) is always tedious > <;

And I thought was Elvaan made. Thank you for clearing that up.

Now, as for the sheer brilliance/stupidity of it's design, guess we'll have to wait for WotG to determine that. ^^ Can't wait to see the original cities, Windurst in particular. Not because I like it, but because it was destroyed in the war and rebuilt into what it is now. I imagine it's going to be much smaller than it currently is.

Then there's San d'Oria ^^ It'll be cool to see the original cathedral and national library ^^
