  • Vana'NaVI EN?

*sighs* I just typed this out, and the stupid thing apparantly thought I had entered a link somewhere (I didn't, though I did mention Google) and deleted my post with the whole "you can't post links" thing... I was going to just delete the thread and ask after I got up (about to go to bed), but I couldn't figure out how for the life of me. Maybe its fatigue...

Does anyone know where I can get an english download of Vana'naVI? I quickly found the official site, and then after a few minutes I found a site to translate that site (yay Google!) and downloaded the app... but for some reason didn't realize that it would also be in Japanese....

Also, I used to have a similar program at one of my old jobs (a clock that told me the time and when my shift/breaks were up) that was integrated into my desktop. Now, I can't remember how it was done, but I'd like to do it with this program if at all possible. If anyone has integrated Vana'naVI into their desktop, could you share the steps you went through?

But yeah, I'd be ecstaticly happy if someone could just point me to a download of said program in English. Thanks!

It would be pretty neat if Vana'Navi could work on one of the Window's Vista Gadget things.

I don't think those are in english though.

Yeah, that's the Japanese site with the Japanese download that I found last night. Thanks though!

Last I checked, Vana'navi used pictures, not words...

I'm sure there are FFXI widgets out there (I don't care what Vista calls them, they're freaking widgets.)

The version available for download is different from the one on this site. The one on this site is english, the one on the download page is in Japanese. The clock is set to JST, and all the words are in Japanese lettering. I can mostly puzzle out what stuff means by looking at the ffxionline one, but its a bit of a bother. The idea is that if it exists on this website, it must exist elsewhere most likely as a desktop download like the JP version is.

As for the widgets (and I agree, blatant MacOS rip off), I don't have Vista so it doesn't even matter.

but yeah, pictures of japanese words still count as japanese words =P

Now, now, I wouldn't say ripoff. Mac, Linux, and Windows all use them, linux less commonly than the others, they're just things that people were likely to come up with. It's like a windowed GUI, and a taskbar, it's not like "Steve Jobs proclaimed 'Let there be little clocks! And notepads! And other things you would see on a real desk!' and there were Widgets, and Jobs saw they were good. But Lo! On the Horizon, There was Gates, And He also saw that they were good, and yea did he desire them for his own loins..."- it's just a step in computer development.

My beef is with people that call them "gadgets" or "desktop accessories" or. ugh, "desklets". They're widgets, call them that. You don't call a power button a "change computer activity status icon", you don't call widgets anything but widgets.

                Re: Vana'NaVI EN?

version 2.1 is very usable, has some english in it.

way back long time agoeven before Apple's Mac OS 7 came out, Apple created "Desktop Accessories." These were very small applications that were not resource hungry.

                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desk_Accessory

then about 4 years ago a guy created Konfabulator for Mac OS X.

                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konfabulator

Apple had a history with it's Desktop Accessories and later release Dashboard with Mac OS X tiger.

but back on topic try using the 2.1 version it is the one I use.

                  Re: Vana'NaVI EN?

2.1 works wonderfully, thanks! I'm going to have a look around and see what I can find out about putting it in the desktop (WinXP). I'll let you know if I find anything.

3.0 looks nice. Its got a timer built into it along with a timezones page. Some of it like the ferry pages would be nice in English, as would setting it to local time, but it'll do.
