    Re: New FFXI Expansion

Since SE doesn't seem to mind re-using the same ideas over and over, that wouldn't surprise me (using a FFVIII style time travel).

Time travel is a stupid idea. It's out of place and just stupid.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

HTTP Error 418 - I'm A Teapot - The resulting entity body MAY be short and stout.

I kind of agree. I'd rather them focus on the world in the present.

This might be the future though, too... Reconstruction efforts? Considering it's been so long, it would make sense.

Maybe we're learning more about the crystal war while we clean up ruins? Would give new life to old areas... but what would garlaige be without holes anymore?

it would be interesting if SE actually let us fix up vana'diel, drive out the beastmen, etc. Really bring life back to Mindartia and Quon.

time travel stupid... as opposed to breaking the barriers of the dimensions to get into dynamis?

in theory time travel is much simpler.

No it isn't. Both are kind of stupid.

I'd like something having to do with reconstruction though. That would be nifty. Really shake things up and actually change the world that people have been playing in for five years.

I don't see how time-travel is out-of-place anymore than touching shattered telepoints, swirling vortexes and dimensional portals was out-of-place. You touch that stuff and go to a totally different area or dimension - that made no real sense.

So what's wrong with time travel? We could get an excuse for Time Mage out of that

This is just speculation on my part, but I think this is going to be along the lines of CoP. A few new areas, no jobs, and most of the content released after the intial expansion in the form of updates.

                  I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I think.

                        Tsk.

Um, expansion. Yes. Will wait and see... and still spend 3 hours a day in DA.

You do realize that there are already Relics in Vana'diel that lets you time travel right? There is an even a quest based on someone from the past going into the future(our time).

in my view the problem with basing the expansion on time travel is because everything that happens in the past is supposed to have an affect on everything in the present. I dont see how they would be able to have you change the past without alternating the present(I see a paradox if they take the time travel route). If it involves changing memories than I could maybe see that(but to me that would be the same concept as the CoP missions right now and would be better as an update than an expansion).

My other concern with the time travel aspect is how would it be incorporated into the current game(will they add new city missions or a whole new area to be able to access the new content).

I am glad there is an expansion in the works, I just hopes it expands on the current story, and not just takes you back through the history(which in a way the missions take you through some of the history already)
u have to know when to hold them, know when to fold them

In all honesty, how do we know its Time Travel a la Chrono Trigger or Back to the Future?

For all we know it could be something kinda like the Emptiness; a strange phenomena that causes a bend in the space-time continum or maybe infiltrates and projects different peoples (or Altana's, even) memories..

I still think the Zilart are in on it. ALL HAIL THE RETURN OF LIQUID SNAKE ...errr...EALD'NARCHE!...

                              I kid.

                                Re: New FFXI Expansion

Well there are other ways of telling long lost stories from the past. One particular way is pretty popular in japanese fantasy manga.... which is, the soul of those involved in the events are not at rest, and they're repeatingly dreaming about their events over and over. This would make sense considering we already have the dreaming Dynamis.... You get sucked into that "dream" world, become part of it. It won't change the present, you get to know the story and become part of it, and you can even redo it as many times as you like because the dreams are just repeating over and over. Sounds pretty perfect for FFXI....

Then you gain some long lost relics from the past that embed into your soul and can use it to go through some doors in the presents. Something like that hmm.
