    How would you differentiate between the old zone and the older zone...

      The major different looks and the fact that Davoi was originally a small Elvaan settlement. So it is a town not a beastman stronghold.

        If you pay good attention to normal ffxi, you can pretty much see what it would have looked like, it was only 20 years ago (well its bee like 500 odd years since ffxi came out, probably more)

        I'm pretty damned sure that this will involve going back in time or soemthing, We were really looseing the war... yet we still won. I'm thinking that heroes were called forth, and well they were us.

        Would be sweet to kinda go back and visit all the old areas. This expansion could contrin all of the 2 main continants, they don't have to change much, add tres, rebuild structures, add fortifications. The areas are allready designed cutting a massive amount of development time for maps.

            I forgot what happened to Battalia Downs, but it used to be greener, something in the CoP or RoZ story line that made the trees have no leaves and point in a certain direction?

              Thousands of years ago the Zilart explosion morphed the trees and cliffs like that but 20 years ago I'm not sure.

                I don't think there is any evidence that all of these scenes are only from 20 years ago. But maybe they are.

                    Davoi City was called diffrently before Orcs took over. Im 100% sure of it I just cant remember the name yet

                        Anyone else notice the strange blue thing that keeps glowing in the sky at night?

                        Also, given the music and the events shown in the video immediately prior to showing the past areas, this is almost certainly the great war.

                        I don't know if it will involve time travelling, that would seem kinda out of place... But bringing back our character's memories of what they were doing would be possible...

                          I'm so hoping we get to see Tavnazia and Al'tieu before they fell into ruin!


                          How the hell is the time travel mechanic going to work though?! SE said they'd be revisiting the middle lands after ToAU was fully implemented, but I hadn't imagined it would be like this!

                          and WOW that orc looks hella scary in that armor.


                          EDIT: Nvm the Al'Tieu comment. Much as I'd love it, that was waaaaay too old.

                              In the interviews with Game Watch a couple of weeks ago they said about 80% of ToAU content had been implemented so I don't think they're done yet.

                                FFVIII didn't have any time-travelling, but there was time travel stuff anyway. A sorceress from the future possessing other sorceresses to do evil things. You went "back in time" through the memories of others.

                                The time travel formula can work in an MMORPG. I see it panning out like a CoP level-cap mission with a cause-and-effect change when you succeed. Just because we're revisiting a past era doesn't mean we couldn't possibly open up new present-day areas to explore as a result. You'd just have to beat the missions for access is all.

                                It would be RPG time travel it its most contrived form, but then, you can't possibly expect Chrono Trigger from an MMORPG.
