  • ffxiah continues to evolve

But it doesn't look like it's evolving for the better. Recently, I noticed the addition of user comments. Check out the comments posted on Kraken Club. Here's a link to someone hoping to get in-game help with Parade Gorget.

I think ffxiah should stick to what it does well, instead of trying to become more like Alla. Adding user based comments hasn't really added much value over at somepage. It's bound to be even worse with ffxiah, given it's more useful as a server-specific resource rather than an inter-server information source. Oh, well. I guess it gives those first-post junkies something to do.

Would have never have know about user comments if not for this thread. They're a minor part of that site and completely optional so it has no bearing on it's true purpose. As long as I can still look up AH item prices online, that site can add whatever else it wants to.

Ya the comments don't mean much to me at all. As long as the site doesn't change it's core functionality, I couldn't care less who decides to post whatever BS they want.

If the user comments are limited to server it could be a great way for people to barter for items with out having to /sh sell things. Think of it as a Batilla Downs w/o the having to /check thru lag.

except it says "last 25 entries" and yet because of the comment spam, I only see like 8. Not to mention this functionality likely slows down the process of loading the page up on my screen. We all know the best thing about google is that it's simple and to the point.

I don't have an account with ffxiah, but I could see the comments being OK if users can customize the site -- mainly, choosing to limit the size of comments are hide them completely.

If they have someone who moderates the comments to remove pointless spam like that, user comments on items could still serve as viable information provided they dont use them as a means to manipulate the market.

I believe they already functionality like that without the user comments. Look down the navigation bar on the left side, and you'll see a link to "Bazaar". It appears to be a separate feature from user comments.

                      Re: ffxiah continues to evolve

I agree that the comments thing is an extraneous an unnecessary feature. At least you can (or will be able to) hide them so you don't have to load and look at them if you don't want to. The one comment per person per item thing is a good idea to help cut down on crap, but there's still a ton of crap. I guess someone could contribute some useful information about where the item comes from or whatever, but that's what the ffxiclopedia link on every page is for ...

Is that where people bazaaring hang about on Ifrit? On Ragnarok, it's Rolanberry Fields..makes me wonder, who started the craze and why did theu pick that particular area?

                          Re: ffxiah continues to evolve

Well obviously the reason people bazaar outside towns is to get away from the jeuno taxes. The large formations mainly happen because that area becomes more and more popular, or there's a popular shop there that a lot of people use, and the people come to sell around that shop to increase their customer base.

Personally, I think this exploit should be solved by A: Enacting a Sales Tax in all cities, 3% for citizens, 5% for non citizens, and B: enabling sales tax wherever that city controls the region. Such as, if Windurst owns Kolshushu, anyone bazaaring in Tahrongi or Buburimu gets taxed. To make this better, enact C: when the beastmen control an area, Jeuno taxes are invoked (to 'combat the evil' or whatever).

Helps revive conquest, and minimizes the effect of tax evasion.

Could do something similar in AU; make it 5% when AU has the AC, and 10% when they don't.

Nice idea, and although tax sucks, I can definately see the positive impact on Conquest, which really needs a boost, to balance out the ToAU areas.

Thanks, but I knew that already! What I was getting at was why Battalia and not Rolanberry. The reason it's Rolanberry on Ragnarok is because most people gather round the Lower Jeuno AH, so I guess it's the nearest zone from there.
