  • Interested in Starting FFXI but have some ?'s

Hey I've been kinda checking the game out and thinking about playing but I noticed a few things that I concerned me.

I noticed that after lvl 10 or so you pretty much have to find a party or else you are "doomed". How hard is it to find a party in that level range? What do I do when I find myself "doomed" with no party?

What is the speed for level progression in this game?

    How is the learning curve?

Any suggestions for a starting class/race for someone new to the game?

Thats pretty much all I can think of now.

After level 10, you can still solo, at least if your job allows it(mages, especially without a sub job might have a hard time). Signet is very important to have while soloing.

To be honest, I can't help you a lot on the question leveling speed. When I was first getting 75, the average was 1 to 2 years for your average player. I think that has changed to 6 months to 1 year. However, there are less parties going on in the middle ranges, but I can't imagine it being too much of a bother. I'd say what counts most is how much of your time you spend leveling and how much you time you speed doing quests/missions/side-things. If all you do is level, you would be at a different pace than someone who spends his time getting the best gear or has a Linkshell with active events.

Pretty good. Check out Playonline.com's New Player Videos(should be link on the first page). Visit ffxiclopedia.org and a forum like this one for further information.

Any combination is fine really. You might have a problem with Galka and mage, but that can be solved with food if you can start using it early on. If you start as a THF or RDM, I suggest you pick WAR as your first job, as Onion Sword(the weapon that comes with WAR) is better than either of the weapons RDM or THF comes with.

I would also suggest, after obtaining level 10, go back and do many of the easier quests that grant gil and armor. Check with NPC merchants before buying from the AH. Especially for things like food and armor.

to find a party easier has some rules which you need to take note of.
write a detail PT comments about you and your job.
where you can access for party area, what you good at, whats your exp till next level and anything that can help you find a party.
level up sub job if you have a sub job. example lv10war have level 5 anyjob sub job which is half ot the main job level at any level.
Be polite to people, try to concentrate and dont keep going afk for more 1 time per 1-2hour. if you cant pt for longer then 2hour, i suggest you dont pt.

speed of leveling depend on alot of things, like how good are you and your party.
what time zone you play at so to know if anyone for party at that level range.

Learning curve is huge and long. As there are a lot of things to learn to make you a better player, thats why this game is fun. If you want to learn, listen to those good players/experience players view.

Starting race most probably is what the race suit to be better like tarutaru for mage, elv or galk for tank, mithra for thief and human is an all rounder.
Starting class/job hmmm, most probably whm, cause at low level they only usually need to cure cure cure and cure. After getting to like mid/high level then they learn how to use spells that remove bad effect on players etc.
