    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/...n2744474.shtml

    I found this on the CBS news website.
    I think it's really eye opening as it speaks to many things not just final fantasy , but addiction to anything.
    I dont play as much as she did in the video thread. But I know some people that do.

    She played a tarutaru btw ^^.

      Oh my, 50 hours a week; I don't even have 50 hours of free time a week.

      It's just like anything else though:

      Some people can drink 2-3 drinks every two weeks or so, whereas others drink 8 each night.

      Some people can eat 1 donut a week, others eat 6 a day.

      Some people can play games 4-5 hours a week, others play 10 hours a day.

      Just have to know your limits I guess.

        Re: Final Fantasy XI addiction on CBS news.

        "It turns out that Internet addiction can be almost identical to other forms of chemical addictions," said Dr. Eric Hollander of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

        Hollander treats impulsive behavior, and says that some people's brains are simply wired in a way that makes them vulnerable to addiction. Whether it's alcohol, cocaine or even the computer, quitting causes withdrawal.
        This is probably the most important part of that article, yet it will be the most overlooked part. Anything can be addicting, it's more on the person then the vice they're addicted to.

              This is another story about someone spending all of there time on the game rather than dealing with RL duties. I have heard them before and I do not think it will stop in the future.

              My Opinion:
              * TV < FFXI
              * Walking around at the mall, shopping, etc < FFXI
              * Friends > FFXI
              * Love Ones > FFXI

              In short: Remember what is important to you. But have fun, and do not let anyone tell you that you are wrong for doing this or that.

                    I had to develop a plan to get FF to work better with my life. I was 230 Ibs at
                    5-9--yea, that's Obese. Not saying it was all game related but it didn't help.
                    My new formula: game time= work/5 +work out time. Which means, if I work a 10 hour day ( which is standard) and I work out at the gym 2 hours, I can play FF for
                    4 hours. I'm 170 Lbs now and pretty healthy for my 61 years. I've played the game for 2.5 years, I'm not addicted, but I like it so much I use it more like motivation.

                      I wonder what made her file for divorce?

                      I myself play maybe 5-10 hours a week now that i have a family. One hour a nite before my wife and i got to bed and also after the kids are alseep. I've never logged in while they were up awake or even napping in the afternoon on weekends. I wouldn't be able to balance the 2 I wouldn't even try to balance the 2. My wife knows its a hobby and i enjoy it. So she lets me have my hour during the week and a few hours at nite during the weekends. I wouldn't consider myself as having a a addiction more of a hobby.

                            a poor excuse to get a divorce if you tell me. She probably never cherished her marriage then if divorce slips so easily from her mouth...its not told that she tried making a change with her husband or his gaming...did she try did they try? A friend of mine trenched himself in WoW becasue his wife stopped paying attention to him or their marriage sexually and replaced that with WoW and then they tried seeing a counselor and his whole reason why he imersed himself in the game was becasue she stopped paying attention to him. Her reply was he started occasionally playing it and still making time for them. Then she added that when he had weekend rallies with a few friends from work and would spend 2-3 hours a weekend in game she felt left out and that she needed to compete with the game. She goes on to add that since she wasn't an athlete or one to compete she just didn't do anything anymore.

                            I think poorly of anyone who doesn't try something or anything to fix a relationship may it be a marriage or a long term relationship. my wife and I are constantly doing new things neither of us have done before to keep things interesting in the marriage...From her learning to play FFXI from me to learning to understand Sudoku from her...i never can get that game...

                              Yeah I love FFXI, but theres waaaaay to many things to do in RL. Active social life, Excercise, Volunteering, travel, sight seeing, photography, architecture, archaeology, are just some of the things I enjoy, with friends/family/or alone.
