  • Equip swap macro oddity

ok, so heal macro is equip Graniose Chain, Dark staff and Antivenom Earring.

Nuke macro is all my int, including Cunning Earring.

Both Antovenom and Cunning earring swap is for Ear1.

When I go from resting to nuking, it changes everything else, but I get one line saying if failed to change an equip, and its the Ear1.

Checked spelling, etc.... heres the wierd bit.

Stand in a city (whitegate) and target an NPC...hit Nuke... and it changes everything.

I get some weirdness too when I hit a macro that swaps both earrings at once. What do you have in your other earring slot? Is that slot being changed at all by macros?

Ear2 is Cunning Earring all the time, the only ear swap is Ear1....

Ear1 goes from Geist Earring/Cunning/Antivenom depending on what im doing.

Always swaps to Antivenom ok...just not back to Cunning.

        Re: Equip swap macro oddity

I had a similar problem when trying to swap one ring. I had only one Solace Ring (I purchased the only one on the AH), and I was trying to swap it in for one of my Wisdom Rings during MND based spells. I kept getting an error saying the equipment change failed, which was extremely annoying during fights. Now that I think about it, maybe the error was appearing when I would attempt to switch back to both Wisdom Rings.

Anyway, it was very frustrating. I ended up finding a second Solace Ring the next day, so that solved my problem.

Maybe in cases where you have two pieces of the same gear, when you use the macro to put your unequipped Cunning Earring back on, the game is looking at the piece that is already equipped, thus the error.

Can you try using /equip Ear "Cunning Earring" instead of Ear1? I have no idea if that is even a legitimate command, though.

I wonder if inventory order might make a difference ... or perhaps if you put the switching earring in the Ear2 slot.

I can't help but think that this is because you have 2 of the same thing in inventory, one of which is equipped.

I think the problem may be that it's trying to equip the one that's already equipped on your ear2... but since it's equipped, it can't be equipped into ear1, and thus gives an error.

As to how to fix it (or get it to act correctly), I don't know. Maybe change out the ear2 slot with things instead of the ear1 slot?

              Re: Equip swap macro oddity

              Hmm.. that's odd.

I swap in both astral for my resting macro and two sapphire for my mnd build on whm, but don't ever have trouble swapping in two of the same item.

First, and you sure you have both cunning earrings in your inventory? If you only have one that is equipped then it would give you that error. I know because I've left a sapphire ring in my mog house before, and would get that error.

Next, try auto sorting your inventory and see if the order of items in your inventory are making a difference. It shouldn't but you never know.

Do you have the equipment swap lines before the spell or after? Since you say it changes correctly when you target a NPC perhaps it's having a problem changing equipment when start casting a spell. Kinda like a delay after using items and such. Try putting your equipment swap lines before the spell and see if that helps. Or alternativly, but a /wait 1 after the spell, then all the swap macros.

Hope one of those resolved the problem

I'm guessing that's what's happening with the OP. If a macro tries to swap in a Cunning Earring, and one is already equipped, the game might incorrectly identify the already equipped Cunning earring, and complain that the /equip can't be carried out because the earring is already being used.

I'd suggest making both macros swap *both* earring slots, even if ear2 is being swapped from Cunning Earring to... Cunning Earring.

                  Re: Equip swap macro oddity

                  To answer a few questions...

Yes, I think also that it is because im trying to equip an item that is already equipped elsewhere...although if that was the case, WHY does it work when targetting an NPC?

I thought it could be lag at first but now I dont think so.

My equip macros are always before the spell.

Come to think of it, same prolem going from staff to Dual wield when subbing NIN....cant macro both swords at once.

Ill try the auto-sort method, and equpping both pieces...even though this is why I dont do it, Iv run out of macro space :/

                  SE GIVE ME MORE SPACE!

                    Re: Equip swap macro oddity

Well dual wield is different. You have to have a 1 handed weapon equiped in the main slot before equiping a sub weapon. Everyone I believe has to have a /wait 1 after equipping the main.

You do have 2 cunning earrings right?

If all else fails, (and macro room exist), put a "/equip ear1" and "/equip ear2" without the quotes to removed the equipment, then put in the earrings. You can try just clearing the problematic ear first and see if that works.

Lol, I realise these questions have to be asked but yes, I do have 2 that are also in my inv, not in my bazaar

Run out of macros space but maybe i'll try it just to testing's sake.

                        Re: Equip swap macro oddity

                        try

                        /equip Ear1 <This Thing>
                        /equip Ear2 <The thing that's always on> ?

Or even more secure, although a little bit of a space waster:

                        /equip Ear1
                        /equip Ear2
                        /equip Ear1 <This Thing>
                        /equip Ear2 <The thing that's always on>

This will take whatever you've got on off before it tries to put things on, so it might work better.

Thats always the problem....not enough space.

Like I said I'll do a tester...wont be on long tonight (off to Cyprus), then home for 2 days, then Moscow, then home for 2 days, then Scotland....

I'm gonna miss FFXI. Maybe its the break I need though :p

                            Re: Equip swap macro oddity

If I read your problem correctly, then I had the same problem with my THF. I had 2 Deft Rings for my SATA setup & it looked like this:

                            /equip ear1
                            /equip ear2
                            /equip ring1 "Deft Ring"
                            /equip ring2 "Deft Ring"

Unfortunately one of the rings wouldn't equip. It was suggested in a forum that I change the order of the macro so I tried that & now everything equips perfectly. This will probably work for you too. Here's what my SATA setup with the Deft Rings looks like now:

                            /equip ring2 "Deft Ring"
                            /equip ear2
                            /equip ring1 "Deft Ring"
                            /equip ear1
