Anyway, I've started over and can say that yeah, the lower levels are kinda dead. I guess that's a natural progression of this game. Since the amount of new players declined, those who were previously at the low levels have progressed to the higher ones. It sucks, but there are still people that level new jobs. It's just unfortunate for anyone who starts now. It's a little harder until you get into the thirties or so.
But this doesn't mean the game is dead. At the higher levels, there are tons and tons of people playing. Honestly, I hear more people that are planning to come back than I do of people saying they're throwing the towel in.
So despite it being harder to get started now, it's not that bad. There's always going to be people starting a new job that will have to go through the Dunes and all again, it just takes a little more effort to level. I don't think anyone should get discouraged by that, because there's always going to be people willing to help out others.
Yeah to some this might not stop them from playing. Then again to others it just might. Its really is the middle of the road. An with games like WoW that are easier for players to join an play. Or new MMO's comming out. This game isn't going to attract players to sit around for hours on end early on..

Last couple events i've wandered in on weren't as popular as they once were. I do see an talked to some younger players. I just didn't see any older veterans doing them.

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

Probably because the events are jusr rehashes from last year (and the year before, and the year before...), so the older players won't do them again every year....

I participate on Feast of Swords every year, and even more eagerly this time around (I've been wanting that Shinai since they gave the first bokken), and all I want now is a lower delay Shinai with maybe better (albeit useless) stats for your NPC.

The events I don't participate in are either too much for my inventory space (I'm looking at you damn eggs of doom) or not my taste (I don't wanna run around looking like a little taru girl even if it's free ).

But on Feast of Swords, Christmas, Sunbreeze and others you can bet me and my remaining friends will be there doing the event at one time or the other.

Now, if only they brought Blitz Buffalo back I'd be a happy humetaru. It has been the event I've had the most fun.

PS > I've been playing for 3 years now.

Actually, when you summon your NPC with it on, it seems the stats are applied. He does an "emote" reaction. I can't prove this, but it would be most likely... so you can just switch it out. This makes the weapon actually pretty good.

Hmm, interesting, I haven't actually called my NPC with it on.

But if what you think is true then it's a really good weapon indeed (specially at lower levels), and also another good reason for wanting the +1 version of it.

Re: First impressions, good but dying game?

              Heh, reading the past 5 pages reminds me when I first started. Back in may/june of '04. Just running around slowly getting exp on my whm/thf and thf/whm. Then game that goblin vs moogle event with those cards (which is in my event item collection still ). My collection of first armor/weapon snyths and gifts crafted from friends over the years. AF, oh how I missed the mass group killing of whm body. Best fun in my begging days. Though, I was reminded of that a week ago doing monk af nm and coffer on my mithra ^.^ Killed the nm for the legs, then next day, went shouting for coffer key/skill up party, amazing how many people still jump at that. Gotten both of my last coffers from the same people, luckly they just wanted to waste time, plus it was fun talking about end game stuff with them waiting for the key to drop. Though I was sad how the last one dropped off the 4th mob killed in the citadel and it was easy to find right behind the 3rd gate. Leveling lowbie jobs pre CN/citadel is a pain x.x I'm just gonna solo my pld 1 to 24 without getting a pty on mah mithra just so I can start off in exping with the iron chainmail set that I've had since getting war to 37 on akashimo. Heh >_>; I'm really a pack rat. Game is really different at times when working with an end game geared char and one that just got sky and full monk af the other day @.@; Though >_>; ls buddies just don't understand why I do it v.v;
Day this game dies, is the day I can solo in dynamis and get nothing but goodie relics I need during it!
Speaking of soloing, rdm af is still my most proudest thing I done solo In exp, Evis for 1566 on thf and Dragon Kick on monk for 1089(not sure on exact, but its was against a very mean, low IT high VT mob and that was w/o SATA!... which also killed me cause the tanked died before it and I was the only perso with voke left alive.... lol) Ahh crazy stories, makes me love the game even more

I think he meant that after 4+ years, you'd think they have resolved most of the errors generated on installation of the game. This is called first impression. For roughly the majority of casual gamers, getting the game installed and then working is the biggest thing. If it doesn't work there ... what confidence are you receiving that the rest of the package is working?

Some of you need to get outside before getting so defensive. Many of you have been in this game for far too long... it's become more than an obssession.
