Sure the quests for the most part stink and are worthless. AF quests as well as advanced job quests are some very well storylines. I was refering to the quests around the nations. TO me almost all of them are just a complete waste of time. Sure you get a couple of nice spells, a few maps you may need, a couple armor/weapons that are actually useful and a few exp scrolls. So whats that about 10% worth of useful quests.
AF are some very interesting quests, But the downfall to that is you have to get the jobs high enough to see them. I got 2 so far, but i say screw the rest...
Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.
little ninja, I'd say only 5 to 10 quests per nation are actually "worthless", and that's counting quests that lead up to quests with better rewards. And that's only because their gil reward is too low. Otherwise, you'll find that quests are useful for the level they can be done.
Maybe to you this quest is useless, after all, what is a Bronze Subligar? However, you forget players begin their adventure with 50 gil, hardly enough to even pay for putting something up on the auction house. From a NPC it will cost them about 218 gil. From the AH, at least on my server, it might cost them 500 to 1k gil.
So the player is new to the game, what's he going to do? Earn himself a pair of pants. He uses those pants, then sells them for 500+ gil, enough to buy more armor from NPCs at a cheaper price.
Then again little ninja, everything I see you say makes you look to be a huge vortex of despair and negativity, so I'd imagine anything looks worthless to you.

Instead, we have Minesweeper: Rid the Zeruhn Mines of a few monsters to keep them off the miners' backs. Bring three pinches of Zeruhn soot to Gerbaum as proof of your success.
Sounds eerily similar. Or was that your inspiration for your post?
Yeah there are those quest but then there are the quests with actual storylines to go with of them, some of which tie into bigger storyarchs, especially those connected to your home nation and the expansion missions.
These quests and missions make the player feel like they're part of the world, they get to see their character in the action of the cutscenes in which unique characters can appear, NPCs that could be considered big heros in the game as well. And, on very rare occasions, you get to fight at thier side.
There's plenty of fetchquests, but many worthwhile and fun ones as well. For the simple story the Skyserpent quest was, it was pretty f'n epic in story. The SOB questline was pretty involved as well. Don't even get me started on the Summoner stuff and how involve the avatars can be even if you're not a Summoner.
the cut scene system helps make even the smallest quest kinda appealing to do actually, even if the stories can be a little silly sometimes.
