  • Inflation is back -.-;

I think that lasts month's adjustments to quash various RMT practices have lead to RMT burrowing deeply back into crafting, further than they had before. At least this is my impression of whats going on with Titan.

As a RNG and COR, bullets are my bread and butter and as of last week the price on both kinds of bullets I use has doubled. The squid sushi I use on COR has doubled in price.

Add to this the money NMs I usually hunt are now swarmed by RMT. I don't know why you need six level 60 players in level 11 gear to claim Dune Widow, but they seem to think its needed. I usually beat them since I have Shadowbind or Quick Draw in my corner, but that can be problematic for others.

So now that the old quests can't be spammed for their gil, nor can they dominate the choice NMs they did in the past, this poses a problem as people did use the other NMs to make gil, just as they did with Leaping Lizzy or Valkurm Emperor before they got the R/E change as well.

I have my Vali's Bow, probably one of the few RNGs with one right now and I'm a happy manthra, but I do need to make a living.

I've worked toward crafting my own ammo and will be able to do so markedly well in time. But still, I do like the luxury of just buying the stuff at times. Holy Bolts and Scorpion are easy enough to make, but Demon Arrows? Low drop rate and RMT still farm the hell out of Demons. So even though those could be crafted, they need an alternative, comprable arrow for that level that is easier to make.

Marid Arrows are extremly comprable to Kabura in damage, not much lost from using those or the bonuses Kabura did have (damn Marid arrows just need to be quivered.)

Maybe it is just Titan or it might just be consumables, I've not seen this spike in prices occur on gear or other things.

it's a bit too early to say inflation is back when you're only talking about a few items.

it's just flux in supplies. squid and sole sushi jump around all the time on remora. 15k - 30k for soles.

so yea, a bit of an exaggeration with regards to inflation. if anything the economy is still adjusting itself. prices at their very lowest, doenst mean thats how the economy is supposed to be. it's just signs of fluctuations you naturally see in anything.

I dunno, consumables don't just double in price in a weeks time without a reason. Weeks ago, kabura arrows were at thier lowest prices, when a deflation like that happens, it usually means massive skillups are taking place.

Iron and silver bullets were pretty steady in price over the last several months. You could get a pouch for 10k on either.

Inflation can happen for any number of reasons, but the biggest reason is the musthaveitnowzz!1!!1!1 people. People need to realize they don't have to level, they don't need that item today.

I can start being selective with how I play, I don't have to whip out my gun all the time on RNG as Holy Bolts and Marid Arrows serve me just as well; I don't have to play melee COR if I don't want to, I can give a BRD a run for thier money on pulls. I know how to stretch my ammo to my liking. I can find materials and a crafter buddy that will help me for free. And I can do plenty of other things besides level. Quests, missions and all that.

I think if more players had that attitude, crafters would get the message and cut back on prices a bit.

If anything, consumables have the most flux in prices since the turnover is so fast. ppl are always trying to drive prices up or undercut to get rid of their stock asap.

I think you are confusing flux in prices/demand/supply and inflation.
Inc. in price does not necessarily mean there is inflation.

Inflation measures the worth of your money, not the items you purchase with it.
Higher inflation means your money is worth less so people are able to accumulate more of it but the buying power of your dollar/gil is less which is why you need to spend more for the same item.

ZOMGMUSTHAVEITAMS is just an inc. in demand which shifts the selling price of an item but that does not have any effect on how much your gil is worth.

If there was an increase in inflation, you would see prices rise across the board, not just for a few high demand item because that would me everyone has more gil in their pockets to spend more on everything. For me, everything seems pretty normal still. Not sure if that made sense. but yea. you would be able to tell inflation in a matter of a week on stuff like squid sushi or iron bullets.

I dont think I have ever bought sushi in the last 2 years that hasnt been crafted by RMT. It constantly goes up and down yet the people selling it are generally just 2-3 ppl, few random legits here and there and are all lv1 tarus usually anon with chefs hat pumping them out all day, every day. Not a good example of inflation really. Id imagine the bullets are just the same. If things like SH+1 Hauby+1, Snipers etc start going up Id be worried but as it is they are still dropping, on hades at least.

According to the price graph on ffxiah.com, the overall trend of prices is still downward, but the slope isn't as sharp as a couple months ago. Doesn't mean you're necessarily wrong, of course. It could be that ffxiah index doesn't take your mentioned items into account or weight them heavily. idk, maybe it's just because I've been away from the game for a little while, but I don't really care what rmts are doing or what the latest thing they're exploiting is. I just want them all to diaf and hope s-e continues to head off their efforts until they do.

The thing that gets me is that while the level 22 bullets are NPCed, the level 50 ones are not. Everything for COR - in terms of cards and dice - is sold via NPC, but not iron bullets (yeah if you bought dice at AH, kick yourself).

RNG gets all kinds of ammo to use, but COR gets four choices in bullets and one is absolute crap. And the Corsair bullets have no real leap in damage and are not craftable, only means of getting them is an ENM, Pulling the Strings.

The thought just hit me that since I sometimes strictly pull and buff in merit, that maybe the level 22 bullets would be better. I'm not in manaburns to DD, nor am I when I'm just pulling and buffing in melee PTs. Probably also more practical for breaking my Coffinmaker and Trail gun.

I suppose I could just save Iron bullets for when I go /RNG or do endgame events. I already save silvers for events on RNG main.

You should change the thread title, it's very misleading. This is not inflation, it's simple price fluctuation, which happens greatly when it comes to consumables. Many crafters will just undercut when the stock is high, and abusively raise the price when the stock is low or at times nonexistant. It's not inflation unless the price of EVERYTHING went up.

welcome to the world of Market Economy models. I (and other crafters) charge what we feel is a fair price based on how fast we're trying to move the item, versus the relative supply and demand and the 'real' production cost. if the price a crafter attempted to charge was 'unfair' then the item simply wouldn't sell.

Abusive doesn't enter the equation until you start talking about direct price manipulation, which is difficult to impossible to do depending on the item in question for any individual crafter. In fact, often this 'abusive' price raise is simply taking the item from break-even to profit.
