  • Newbie's Question about AF

At that point in your character's life, can he solo the AF quests or do they alsop require parties to do?

    Re: Newbie's Question about AF

Most AF requires help. There are a few that you can solo, and most you can solo parts of the quest, but there is usually an NM fight that will require help. These days you most likely will not be able to get a full party to help, but a couple level 70-75 players.

hardly everything in this game is solo'able on your own, this game was made to be that way as it is a mmo and a very socialable game, you'll need a cople of 70-75's like Wise said and you should be good to go, good luck

It is possible to solo some AF quests, however it's nearly impossible unless you have a 75 Job that's good at soloing. Just team up, that's more fun anyway.

          Re: Newbie's Question about AF

Even jobs which are capable solo'ers can't solo 100% of their AF. When I did BST AF, I needed help with AF2, AF3, Beadeaux coffer key for the AF trousers, and the Dark Spark fight for AF gloves. The only reason I was able to solo even AF1 was because I had a higher level job already. I solo'ed the other two coffer keys I needed, but I still needed 3 other people to get past the Banishing Gates in Garlaige Citadel to get the AF helm.

            Re: Newbie's Question about AF

I've always wondered what we could actually do without higher level helpers.

Like if an AF NM fight could be done by a party of level fiftysomethings (whatever level that AF piece was for). With the way most everyone wants to have their 'sure-thing' I doubt I'll ever see something like that. People really hate hearing "I'm not sure this is going to work, but..."

              Like I said, a lv75 solo job.

I'm sure back in the early days (2003/2004) it was a lot more common to see large groups of 50's and 60's taking on AF fights. I remember when I first started out about 3 years ago, my ls was going through a big G1 and AF drive. It was pretty common to have 12-18 people hunting coffer keys or papyrus. Honestly, I think that's how SE intended it.

While the coffers and quests are designed to be able to be handled by a group of players at the level that particular piece can be equipped at, saying it was intended to be done by people of that level is going a little far.

Like just about all things in this game, the intention was probably just that you got help from your friends. The level of those friends was irrelevant as long as they were high enough to be useful.

                    Re: Newbie's Question about AF

That last statement wasn't speaking about level, just that SE probably preferred to see a band of 12+ people running through AF or whatever together as opposed to someone soloing/duoing it.

My only reason for bringing up the 50/60 range was to answer Hantz' post about groups of that level taking on those quests.

My Static did our AF sets (with exception to the AF3 NM fight(s)) as we leveled to the appropriate level to wear the AF Armor.

There is no way that you can obtain the AF3 piece without a full alliance of members your level (at the level the piece is wearable), or high level help. And that is just insane.

I hope that all made sense. lol.

Made sense to me. Did you have a WAR in your static? I can't imagine WAR AF3 being done by single party of level 60s. Well, maybe if you had a BRD to Lullaby the Goblins.

No war, thankfully. I know what you're getting at

Thf (me) - Yeah, I know, not really hard at all for the Coffers since I picked them, but still had to do two NM gobs for my Hat Got all but my boots.
Rdm - Has all but his AF Hat. The pimpness is not complete

Whm - Completely done (High lvl help for AF3)

Pld - Completely done (High lvl help for AF3)

Sam - Has all but his AF Hat.
                          (Replaced by Mnk)

Blm - Has all but his AF Hat.
                          (Replaced by Blu)

But everything else was all us. And to say that it was a rewarding experience, is an understatement.

So, by these replies I assume that the only way to effectively solo the AF chain of quest,s one would need to be 75.

Are the AF Armors a requirement for progression?

While they arn't required, for a lot of jobs they are extremly useful, and some may consider you gimp if you do not have them. Pretty much all of the AF quest can be soloed by 1 level 75 (Misery Murphey comes to mind as one that can't be). So perhaps you can find one bored end-gamer with a few hours to kill.

But the nice thing is that once you get to 75, you can use that job to hunt for Coffer keys, Kill dark spark and other NMs, and the like. Just remember to be on the correct job to open coffers. (Misery Murphy is another one that you have to be on rdm to spawn the NM though).

Some high level people like to charge for helping people, but I don't. I'm usually pretty busy, but when I find myself standing around I'll listen to shouts for AF and various quest. I hope that you find some help for your AF.

EDIT: If you're going to request help from someone, make sure you've read up on the quest, and that you have all the necessary Cut Scenes already done before dragging them out there. Some quest I know what to do, but if I havn't done it before, I'll need you to tell me where to go and what to kill.
