So, by these replies I assume that the only way to effectively solo the AF chain of quest,s one would need to be 75.

Are the AF Armors a requirement for progression?

May I ask, what job in particular, are you leveling?

You have to be pretty damn lazy not to get 5 pieces of free gear.

Honestly, if you're of the mindset that doesn't want to get AF... you shouldn't be playing FFXI.

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say that you shouldn't be playing FFXI, but the gear is generally designed to enhances skills, abilities, or traits that are needed for your job.

A lot of the mage AF, to me, has a longer shelf life of use after obtaining it, but a lot of the melee gear from what I've seen isn't used much past it's level. If you're having trouble obtaining the gear, you should be able to survive a few levels without it untill you can find ways of obtaining it.

While the game kinda forces you to be socialable to obtain things, I try to do as much of it on my own. I love helping people with things, but hate asking for help.

What job are you leveling and what server are you on?

I'm not saying that not wanting AF means you shouldn't play FFXI, i'm saying that not wanting to do your AF quests and get it anyway means you shouldn't play FFXI.
