The Garuda race in Zelda only had one male born every 100 years, that's a lot of pressure on a guy. I think they mithra guys got a better deal - keep the race alive and you're protected.

Doesn't explain the broken mithran rods in the AH, though

I submit to you the case study of a tribe in Southern Russia that probably inspired the Greeks idea of the Amazons. The Women went to war, ran the towns/tribes, conducted business. The men stayed at home and cooked, cleaned and raised children.

yeah like I said, nice reference there ^.^ But yeah that is pretty much how Mithra are, to a T

Why limit it to the user? Add Stormbringer and let the DRKs be *really* emo as they watch their sword kill all their friends. Nobody out-emos the White Wolf - that's why that company named themselves after him.

Even a 10% chance of having each of your attacks (and WS) hit a random party member instead of your target would really make people think twice about using those weapons in parties. :D

You don't see WARs tank because the vast majority of players don't want to exp with a WAR tank. People have the mistaken notion that NIN tank or PLD tank automatically equals most efficient exp rate, and that WAR tank automatically equals crappy exp rate. Never mind that there are 5 other people who factor into the effectiveness of the party, or that hate management is really the responsibility of the whole party and not just the tank.

Re: The Questions SE doesn't answer

WAR's can tank, it's just that people generally don't view highly of WAR tanks since they tried it once with a WAR/NIN whose equipped for DDing and had a bad experience, so they assume that WAR's are bad tanks. I went with a VIT build until 37 on my Galka WAR/MNK when I still played him and tanked well since I was equipped for it, had the right sub for it, and also because Galka have great stats for tanking. Although most of its "tanking abilities" are accessible when subbed, that doesn't make WAR any less of a tank.

But considering how powerful of a DD they can be as WAR/NIN from 55 onward, it's no surprise to see WAR's not want to tank.
