  • How to make a major AH misbid

    1. Use a windower.
    2. Start bidding on a very expensive item, starting low and slowly working up on the price.
    3. Check something on your browser when in the middle of doing so.
    4. Click back on FFXI with your mouse, and proceed to increase your bid.
    5. Realize your successful 560k bid was on the 50k item the mouse happened to be hovering over after you switched back to FFXI.

    Stupid mouse!

Re: How to make a major AH misbid

I did that last week. I was trying to buy an Amir Bed on the AH. There was no purchase history so I had to bid blind. Since it's Power was only 6 I was bidding appropriate to the other 6 Power beds and I was trying to keep my bid in the same price range. I stepped away for a minute came back and opened up the bid again and made a successful bid on a 2000 gil Ancient Blood painting for 45,000 gil. Atleast the person I over paid to (Pacifica on Bahamut) was good enough to reimburse the extra gil I paid. I did send tells immediately, and apologized for the mistake, explaining what I had meant to bid on.

Lucky for you, that player was in-game. I'm starting to think my over payment went to someone's mule. I may never be able to contact this player in game.

I did that before. I was trying to bid dark steel ore, 50k each at that time I think, while browsing internet.

I switch back to game and found myself full of copper ores....

Huh, so this may be why I suddenly got so many people overbidding by absurd amounts awhile ago. To be honest now I probably won't be giving refunds anymore. I'll give someone's gil back if it looks like an honest mistake, but if people are doing afk bot bidding?

It's getting harder to tell who to give gil back to and who not.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

Re: How to make a major AH misbid

There's some setting on FFXI's config (from the start menu) that makes it so if you click, it doesn't count as a click on FFXI when you're in another window. Under "Misc." turn on "Enable hardware mouse cursor".

I had to turn that on because sometimes my character would randomly start running around wildly when I'd be looking at websites.

This has little to do with windower, it's more about carelessness. If he was watching TV while doing it it would have been able to happen also.

When SE implements running in a window, will you be saying "that's what you get for using official windowing?"

At least you made some newbie very very happy. ^^

I like seeing a random configuration of numbers whenever I sell something. Seeing 4623987 in my delivery box makes me know that I milked someone for all they're worth. >:D

Well, I'll say that's what you get for not looking at the "Bid XXX gil for the YYY?" window before hitting Yes. Especially when you're not really paying attention to what you were bidding on in the first place.

You are responsible for your own bids, unless someone steals your password and logs on to your character to bid on things.

This char has sold 2 Haubys and a pair of Luisant Brayettes in the past few days. No, I don't think it's some newbie who benefitted from my mistake

This is the bane of "Are you sure?" prompts. If it's part of an action you seldom take (like, say, deleting your character), it can be effective. But if it's part of an action you do many, many times, the user becomes accustomed to simply dismissing it.

Well, if I manage to get in touch with the seller, I'm not going to blast him or make it sound like he owes me that gil. I hope I do get in touch with him, as I'd like to make an appeal to him to show some compassion. If someone had made a huge misbid on one of my items, I would be willing to return the excess amount to them. I'd even go out of the way to contact them.
