Ok I am a tad confused and maybe you guys can help me. I now understand that this is mainly a group type game and have no problem with that. Due to the fact it is a group / party game I would like to play a support class and help my group in killing etc. But my question is am I better off going rdm whm at first ? Was thinking of going bard for my first adv job and eventually try them all out. But at lower levels which will have the most surviveability soloing from 1-10 and in partys when you get aggro? I don't want to go down like a wet paper bag. So if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

I have been WHM and usually get a party invite or two during a game session, which is really really nice. It's also said to be a "cheap" job to level compared to others.

For Solo RDM has more atck than WHM (SWD and such) but its really not an issue, my advice again, run them all to 10 solo and see what appeals to you as a player, you may find WHM is more to your liking or BLM or RDM or hell MNK.Comment

RDM has a very slight soloing advantage over WHM in those early levels due to stronger armor selection.
You'll end up soloing both to 10 fairly early on. When you hit level 18 with your first job, you will be able to unlock subjobs. And at that point, you'll want to have WHM and/or BLM as a subjob for RDM.
Survivability in parties when things go south? Unless you're a THF or PLD with your 2 hour handy, you won't last long against VT/IT mobs when members of your pt start dropping like flies. If you're talking about situations where you pull hate during a battle... well, WHM can survive for a little bit once you get Stoneskin and Blink. RDMs and BRDs tend to be toward the bottom of the hate list.
Just learn to manage hate for whatever job you play. When the mob is hitting you, don't cure yourself if you can help it (it only makes the situation worse). If you're a BLM and you get hit by the mob, hold off on nuking for a little bit. Stuff like that.Lyonheart

If you're planning to be a Bard, then I'd recommend WHM over RDM.
Not for soloing reason from lv1 to lv10, but for the reason to make WHM as subjob for BRD.
I'm sure RDM will be easier to level from 1 to 10, but you probably will end up leveling WHM also to sub it to BRD.Comment
