ive got a few questions.

ok i know that im a total noob but i wanted to know a few things before i started the game.

1. i got a free copy of the game for the xbox 360 from work and i wanted to know if i i can play with pc people or is it just xbox live?

2. any other differences between console playing and pc playing?

3. im coming from world of warcraft and have a warlock and a mage and would like to maybe play something similar to that. what would be a good choice as far as race/class go?

4. are there still regular updates for the game or is it at its end and thats all there is to it after the install then updates?

5. i think thats it but if there is anything else that i need to know i would really appretiate it.

Everyone uses the same servers, Live is only required to get the 360 out to the internet, FFXI is not a Live service

Well, one is on a console in your living room attached to a TV, the other probably isn't.

Whatever you want. Jobs can be changed at any time, there are only a few decisions that can not be changed. However the way you look is one of them. Pick a race and look that you like, any differences between them can be made up for in gear and food.

The game isn't like WoW so don't try to play it the same way. One big difference is that to make progress, you will be partying, if you can't stand that then don't even start the game.

1. You play on the same servers regardless of what you are playing on. XBOX/PC/PS2 - it doesn't matter.
2. Not really much beyond personal preference.
3. There are many mage classes in FFXI. The great thing is that you can try all of them out on one character and see which you like. Race does effect your Stats to a small degree, but not so much that it should matter. Pick the race that is most appealing to you.
4. Yes, updates every few months and more Expansions to come. Anyone who tells you this game is dying doesn't know what they are talking about.
5. This game is VERY different from WoW. The is much more of an Experience Grind, and not much of a solo experience to speak of. That being said, I have played WoW, and I find FFXI to be much more rewarding.

Welcome to the game.

1. You can play with people who have the PC, PS2 and Xbox version on the same server. If you're looking to play with someone you know specificially you'll both have to be on the same server to play together.

2. Couldn't tell ya, I play on the PS2 version and have never seen actual PC gameplay. It looks like the Xbox 360 and PC version have better graphics than my dinky PS2 one.

3. The classes aren't as "involved" as they are in WoW really, so it's a bit hard to say. The closest thing to mage from WoW is probably black mage in FFXI. As for warlock, well, that's a bit trickier. A lot of mage classes can put DoTs on enemies, but I suppose the one with the most diverse group would be RDM. RDM is a lot more like shaman to me though.

4. There's still updates, I'm sure you might have to install a few before playing. Doesn't take a super long time.

5. Make lots of friends! The best thing you can do in FFXI is make some friends.

As far as picking race/class, keep the following in mind:

Skill > Gear > Race

With approriate stat modifying gear, any race can play any job at a respectable level. So pick whatever race you like, and don't worry about whether or not it will be a major hinderance to you.

well thanks for the help everyone i think that ill start playing ff11. ive always been more of a final fantasy player than anything so ill probably like it. anyone know someone who wants to trade accounts i have 70 warlock and 70 mage.

Don't buy an account, as you won't have any idea how to play your job, regardless of what you played in WoW. Play from scratch and earn your keep. Otherwise, you'll have a tarnished reputation and frankly, nobody will want to do anything with you.

If it's anything like PS2 or PC versions then yes. But I thought somebody said that xbox version has to have the disc in every time you play. If that's the case, I'm not sure.
