Please change the title of that post from CHANGES TO THE SECTION to RULES and erm, make it a sticky instead of the READ BEFORE POSTING, lol

      Re: Spell suggestions

Okay, just copy and paste what I'm about to write. It makes more sense:

      PLD

      Honor Spikes

      Enlight

      Libra

      DRK

      Endark

      Last Resort and Magic

      RDM

      Refresh I and II

      SMN

Too lazy to separate the rest

      BLM/DRK

      Aspir II

Libra and Aspir II were not meant to be easy to get spells. They should be equal to Blackbelt in rank of difficulty to get. How about a quest like BB, where each Wyrm HNM(Tiamat, Vrtra, and Jorm) drops a rare/ex item(50%) that is traded in along with some synthized material made from their drops(got to show crafters love) and you get to pick a reward: Scroll of Libra, Scroll of Aspir II, Scroll of some other spell, A Ridil-like Polearm, and the best melee belt in the game.

Well, I was bored... has this been moved out of the "Ask SE" section yet? It should be.

        Re: Spell suggestions

the old rules (Read Before Ppsting thread) are still valid and was specified in that thread as well. you can't use that excuse... it was also in a big fat announcement on top of the forum so you really have no excuse...

Why does everybody have ideas lately?

Feather is a spell in Oblivion that lowers your weight, effectively increasing your travelling speed.

            Re: Spell suggestions

We already have two tiers of movement speed songs and, really, the addtion of Raptor Mazurka was not only underwheming for its intended function, it was explioted for its underlying hate spike. It was a mistake to add a tier 1 version in the first place. Oh well.

Giving White Mage the Float spell, however, could have some interesting uses. I could be used to help parties overcome gaps on the field map or avoid damage from Earth-based spells like in prior games.

Invisible's old function wasn't actually to render yourself invisible in older games, but to increase a party member's evasion in combat. Evasion seems to be important to players and only COR and BRD can enhance evasion stats. We have three classes with Haste, three with refresh, why not a third here? Give WHM a teir 2 Invisible that briefly increases evasion.

Were I to give WHM any degree of offensive function, i'd give them access to the lower tier bows, like Rosa had in FFIV. Lower tier bows because if it did start a trend of WHM/RNG, it wouldn't be as bad. I think a bow would be appropriate for a back line support class.

Invisible in older games is actually Blink/Utsusemi (Edge)

EDIT: Exempting FF6 that is, which made you unable to attack and stay hidden and made you more vulnerable to magic

Edge's Spell was called Image and, yeah, Invisible nulled physical attacks in FFVI, but you could get nailed with magic all the same.

Never the less, White Mage did have an evasion spell it could cast on allies. perhaps another tier of Blink would be in order, functioning like Phalnax II where it can only be cast on an ally. NINs would have no reason for asking for it, but it would help PLDs and non-/NIN melee, if only a little.

Granted this is also what Garuda's AoE blink is for, but there are times you don't go /SMN, too.

I wouldn't mind seeing Holy take it's place as the ancient magic of WHM spells: Long cast/recast, heavy damage, and undeniably flashy.

It just wasn't done enough justice in this game.

Apparantly it was quite powerful when the game was first released but later nerfed. I agree that it should be more powerful ... come on, it costs 100MP for gods sake.

                      Re: Spell suggestions

Rather than alter Holy, I'd rather have a merited Holy II or something.

Holy can do ok damage with enough mnd, Apollo's and the like, but I really like it because of it's fast cast. I don't have to time a MB, I just see the shiney ball of light, and have time to type /ma Holy <t> before the MB window closes.

Holy II, which is in the .dats I believe could be a more AM type spell. I wouldn't mind them taking martyr out and giving me Holy II in it's place. But I wouldn't complain if they never did that either.

                        Re: Spell suggestions

Well, if we are talking about changing spells...

Quick note: Every change I make involving merits is based around the idea that the limit one day will be 5/10, just like Job Group I.

                        Light Damage Spells

                        Holy II

                        Ancient Magic II

Both of the above are kind of suppose to work with the whole SC/Converse MP change.

Basically, when you MB a spell, you get a 100% Conserve MP effect. Normally Conserve MP can reduce your spells by 16/x.. x being something of 8 to 15. When a spell is MBed, x will be 4 to 8. That is 1/2 to 1/4 normal MP cost. With this, WHMs(PLDs, DRKs, ect) can MB without feeling the MP loss. Also, it gives BLM more staying power in a quick merit party.

                        Merited BPs

True, but it's still the same blink spell/ability that was in FF2/5. And Image was the name given to the NA version, so you never know. I really wish SE had made the spell (utsu & blink) function the way it did in FF2/4/5 instead of the way it does now.

                          Oh well.

Aye. Invisible was a weaker form of shadows in FFXI, as any magic at all would nullify the invisible. Shadow ( the character ) could also put shadows on himself, not exactly sure what it did besides evade physical attacks though. Long time since I've played that game..

You know what spells I'd really like from past games? Here:

If you want to go fast, you always have your chocobos. As for offensive spells, I don't see why a WHM would need something like that. It's a supportive class, and the whole nature of the game is to party with such a class, hence you won't really need all those offensive spells.
