Buff and debuffs how to know what they do?

When I have a buff or debuff on me how do I know what it does or doing? I see the icon but what does it do is what puzzles me. Thanks...

I think you press + on the numpad twice to get the cursor on your status icons. After that you can use the arrow keys to highlight the different icons, and a description of what they do will show up in the tooltip window.

If you do a search for "Status Effects" at the site Dak linked to, that'll give you a list of them all and a description of what they do, though that page doesn't have the names and descriptions matched up with icons. Maybe I'll edit that stuff in later ...
