  • Oh, SE, PvP system changes please

Okay, so I'm splitting this thread into two parts. If you are going to get pissy about me not asking a question, then skip the part where I don't. That way, no one gets hurt. Smart idea amirite? Okay, onto the thread.

I like FFXI's PvP. A lot of people don't, but some do(especially them crazy JP). You know, at first glance it would seem absolutely broken, but somehow, it isn't. It just has this natural balance. However, this balance is not strong and could be stronger with some effort. Some threats to this balance:

    1. BLU's dominance. (too powerful in too short of a time)
    2. Range of BLU's spells and SMN's BPs. (too short, should be extended like WSes)
    3. Mage weakness, primary BLM and SMN. (Rely too much on subjob for any type of defense at all)
    4. Brenner's flaws. (Postens only work in big games, like 12 v 12... otherwise, they kill the fun)
    5. /Quarry gives a hell of a lot of useless items in times of need. (Seriously, No one will ever appreciate a elemental "Bar" ointment ever)
    6. Pets give Gate Breach when killed. (This makes what DRG/PUP/BST rely on a weakness rather than a strength)
    7. English and Japanese(and European for that matter, I guess) have a hard time working together because their auto-translate is not built well for aggressive and tactical PvP.
    8. Pet jobs with 20 min timer get screwed because death is so common in PvP.
    9. The rewards for taking part in PvP, which can last more than an hour, suck. 500 exp is nothing at all.
    10. Auto-Assign could really be better at splitting up the job archetypes between teams.

Then there are things like job balance(including stuff I mentioned). SAM/RNG is quite deadly, almost as broken as BLU is in some cases. If a match has too many mages, it becomes sleep/bind-spell fest for the melee. If a match has too many melee, the mages just get slaughters respawn after respawn. When doing this to nerf RDM, you really, really hurt other jobs like BLM. Sure, with Bind, RDM with their super defense builds can solo melee. But with BLM? When left alone with a melee bind is pretty much a lifeline to escape or win. And it's funny, with all these sleep nerfs, Sleepaga and Lullaby(AoE sleeps) seem to work fine, but when you need it most with Sleep II, it doesn't work. Some mechanics should be changed there. As it is now, it is practically impossible for a BLM to get a Gold Chevron because he is easy pickings and everyone goes after them(more so than any other job).

So SE, I've highlighted the problems, what do you intend to do about the PvP's imbalance?

From here on, is my fixes, stuff that SE should really consider in doing.

    Job Ability Timers

    Enfeebling Changes

    Job Balance

    Charm

    Provoke/Hate

    Invisible, Sneak, and Deodorize

    Bonuses bought with Ballista Points

    Dropping Petras

    Quarry Items

    Warp spells

    Party / UI System

    Postens of Brenner

    Exp Reward

    Auto-Assign

    LS Liga

    CONFLICT POINTS, an idea

Alright, I'm tired and I'm sure it all became gibberish towards the end. Sorry about that.

EDIT 2: Spoiler boxes put into place to make things neater.

Personally, since ballista is supposed to be a grand match, i'd like to see NPC fillling the slots between players on teams. Ballista supports up to 64 players, right? How often is that actually fulfilled? Just add in NPCs, cap it out, if a player signs up midmatch, they replace an NPC that matches their job. Of course, NPCs are stupid, so it would turn into more of a "hunt the NPC" match, unless NPCs were given significantly higher HP than players.

As long as any changes made only affect PVP they can do whatever they like. I don't PvP and never will, so I'm cool with whatever.

              That is the question.

Rather than ask "What does SE plan to do about x" a 10-12 times, I explain all the problems that come to mind and then ask what SE plans to do about them all in one simple question.

Nah, its another non-question telling SE what to do.
Can you point out where I told SE to do anything in my question? Or were you too busy trolling to read that I split my question and my suggestion into two parts?

Anyway, anyone mind explaining to me what is the correct code for Spoiler boxes? It's not exactly working for me...

I don't think so at all and I am at a lost why someone would. Could someone explain this to me?

Any PvP fans here? What do you think of these?

You are telling SE what the problems are with PvP, and almost demanding a resolution with your wording... But that's just what it looks like to me, so whatever.

By the way, you're most welcome. Glad I could help with the spoiler code. :-\

I like these ideas, and if they were implemented in a package, I wouldn't even have a problem with the BLU nerf (that can be made up for easily.)

To put this into a form of a question, can we have this submitted to SE for consideration? These changes stand to have a lot of potential to make Conflict interesting again.

Odd, because I don't see this anywhere. Can you explain why it looks like that to you? Because it feels like you basically telling me "I like apples" is a sinister phrase.

lol, oh boy, apparently a question and a list suggestions can't be in one thread. Too confusing. Oh while you are at, can't you just move half the threads out of that section too? If I had just made this about suggestions, it would have been okay?

Re: Oh, SE, PvP system changes please

I have to disagree on a number of points.

Sidewinder's hard enough to hit with as is, leave it the hell alone.

I'm not sure what to do about BLU though. Rather than nerfing it's damage for multi-hit spells, I'd like to see multi-hit WS restored. That nerf was total BS. The same goes for the powering down of elemental magic damage (to an extent)

I do agree with you though, that ballista is in bad need of fixing. I've had one good buddy quit already because he lived for it, and SE killed the fun.

I wouldn't quite call it hostile. Without being able to see body language and hear tone of voice you can only go off of someone's phrasing to get the mood of what they are trying to say on a Forum.

To me, you wording is more arrogant than anything else, meaning no offense.

You can't make a thread with a question and list possible solutions when the original intention of the thread had nothing to do with the question at all!

This is Q&A with Square Enix, not critiques and criticisms. They aren't going to take your suggestions seriously unless you're on their payroll. At least then they can assure themselves of your merit by the fact that you've attained whatever position you're in, and you've signed all their contracts so whatever ideas float out of your person are automatically property of SE.
