  • PlayOnline Customer Support

    Hey guys,

So I tried to reactive my PlayOnline account, but the password was incorrect. So I went to talk to customer support about the issue.

He closed the Live Chat on me. I can't believe that.
And they can't establish original ownership?

    Beautiful.

I'll be giving PlayOnline a call tomorrow.

    Re: PlayOnline Customer Support

So you didn't have all of the information they required, yet its their fault?

I understand its frustrating, but if someone called the bank with your name, address and account number, but didn't have the pin or password, would you want them getting information?

It sucks you can't get back into it, but then again, it's been 11 months. By all rights the account should be long gone.

Ask your friends who had access to your account, one of them could've reactivated it to keep your character alive, or use it themselves.

Other than that, yes, this is pretty much common knowledge. Be careful with your account, if you do get hacked, pray to god you find someone who doesn't mind getting fired for you.

They should at least be able to look up your past records. That's just bad service. So is pretty much "hanging up" on your customer when they're trying to get it straightened out.

Like WoW (oh god, I hate that game), you should at least be able to scan your CD-Key and fax it to them or get a copy of your driver's license and have it notarized to prove it's actually you.

I'm just frustrated that because of one incident 11 months ago, my 2 years of FFXI has gone down the drain.

i'm sorry, but if you did something stupid like give out your password to some stranger on the internet, then yeah.

          Thanks Yyg!

            Yeah... no.

Let's save posts like the above for a spam message board as it contributes absolutely nothing constructive.

NT is a moderator here, and is pretty much the authority on what is and isn't spam. You haven't explained why someone would have your info, so really the most logical answer is that you gave it out to someone.

Most cases of "being hacked" in this game are really just people who gave out their account info and then got burned.

                thank you murphie.

to elaborate, what i meant is you are responsible for the safety of your own account. if you did something stupid to compromise it (and as murphie said, with you not providing any details, this is the natural conclusion; not to mention you seem to have some knowledge of an "incident" in the past that could have caused this), SE shouldn't be responsible for fixing your mistake.

to throw on the opposite shoe, how is SE to know you aren't the one trying to hack the account. After all, you only have a cd key - "easy" to get - and mailing address - also easy to get - to go on.

Let's save posts like the above for a spam message board as it contributes absolutely nothing constructive.
you were looking for something constructive? looked to me like you were just ranting

                Thanks Yyg!

                  Re: PlayOnline Customer Support

I'm curious as to how you were hacked as well. The only true cases of hacking that I've heard of are from 3rd party tools that the users downloaded, be it windower, or other plugins that are against the ToS anyways.

I would find it highly unlikely that a random virus you got browsing the internet turned out to be an FFXI-related virus to send your info to someone. Not impossible I suppose, but improbable.

But anyways, an account is deleted after 3 months of non-payment or cancellation of content IDs. So the only reason your character still exist is because someone has been paying for it.

Doing a search on ffxiah.com skizzy on pand<tab> is active as of yesterday. Perhaps if you have friends still in game you can contact one of them to try and find something out.

Fortunately, I'm not dumb enough to give someone my password. My passwords are like: p3J7axW so clearly they couldn't have guessed/cracked it either.

One of my friends must have downloaded something malicious.

But what I did or my friend's did, doesn't matter. Even WoW (again, I hate typing that) has better support on this issue, and since FFXI is an underdog (for lack of a better word) they should definitely pick up their support to have an edge on other MMOs.

Bleh. I guess all good things must come to an end.

Edit: As I was posting this, two posts were made.

Oh, really? Guess I shouldn't be too pissed then. My account would have been trash anyways - at least someone in having fun in my place.

                      Re: PlayOnline Customer Support

so you gave your friend your password. you've already compromised your account's security right there as you cannot guarantee the actions of your friend.

as you said, he could have downloaded something malicious (stupidity on his part that bit you in the butt too) or he could have passed that on to someone else.

robust billing system history is usually not a spectacular selling point for MMOGs

                      Thanks Yyg!

Wrong. I never gave him my password. Hell, I wasn't even logged into FFXI. You don't need to be online at the time of downloading something malicious. A simple keylogger will be on all the time, and the host just needs to wait until you type in the password.

Can you just close this? I don't care anymore as my account would be been dead already. As I said in my last post, at least someone is having fun at my expense.
