  • From PS2 to PC - How do I retrieve Character info?

I've been playing FFXI on PS2 for 2-3 years now, but I'm about
move to PC. How do I retrieve the character info and log in? Sorry if this is an overly-obvious question.
I have my PlayOnline ID, Password, Mail Address and Password, will this be enough?

    Hm.

Just install, input the info, get all the updates, and yeah, you'll have your characters. What you won't have are the macros, chat filter and font settings, and map markers.
    Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
    yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

Just your POL ID and password is enough, yes.

that's all you need to log in but since Macros and settings are not stored on the server you'll have to retype and set all of them again. I used the PC edition for abit but went back to my PS2 because I was used to it and didn't wana retype 3 years worth of Macros....

you'll be happy to know, that once your on pc, you can easily back up your macros and save them on a usb drive or compress them and e-mail yourself the user data.
Just check under your pol directory or ffxi directory for something called USER and copy that in it's entirity.

I did see something about backing up the information (macros) online and uploading it to the server. Something about shift or something like that, let me dig around, though I don't think I ever got it to work.

The slots are labelled Slot A - Slot D and you can scroll through the slots by pressing the up and down arrows.

To restore a set of macros you have saved, press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R in the character select screen. You will then be able to choose which macro set to restore.

If you save all of your current macros in Storage Slot A, you can then rewrite all 10 sets in anyway you choose and back them up in Storage Slot B. Then, when ever you are logging in, you simply restore the set you plan on using that day.

By using all 4 slots (slots A-D) and considering each slot holds 10 sets of macros, you can actually save 40 unique sets.

This function is also incredibly helpful if you need to change macros on a one time basis. Simply back your macros up before logging in and when your current event is over, you can restore them back to their previous form with very little effort.

Note: It is important to point out that this may take a little time to set up, but will save you from having to constantly rewrite macros for your jobs. Also, you have to be very careful that you do not save the back up file over another set of macros you want to keep.

I can confirm this as I do this myself when I level other jobs. I have a backup of all my macros on my desktop.

You don't need to copy the entire folder though, just the dat files mcr-mcr9 is ok.

Off topic: By the way Omni, I sent you a message. :D

Alright, thanks. I'll have to try the macro-saving thing later when I get on.

                  Hm.
