  • I don't have to raise you :P

I find it funny people think they're owed a raise for dying. There was this person on the boat to Nashmau last night, someone I didn't particularly like and was a rude person in general. One of those people stuck on being at endgame levels, preaches to you about how you should do things based on endgame, which can be a disservice to lower level players.

Also once saw this guy chastise a newer player publicly for having an underlevelled sub and lacking gear. I accept the fact that some new players are just kids that don't know any better and just want to level up. I didn't see the need for this jerk to berate him in /say at the AH.

Anyway, back to the boat trip. Proteus is roaming the upper deck. I do want to kill him, but I'm not stupid enough to go after him alone. He's like a softer version of Charybdis, but hits just as hard and tears through shadows. You need a NIN and BRD to take him, along with some DDs since you can time out thanks it it being on a boat.

This player doesn't bother to check the NM, so I just opt not to warn him. I was enjoying my Four-Alarm Spicy Chicken sandwich anyway. Upon the death that followed, they send me tells for raise. I don't have a WHM sub on Kitten, workin on it, but in no rush since there's really nothing for COR in endgame right now. And they don't know I'm Foobar, who does have a WHM sub. Foobar's BST/WHM is stowed away in some hellish zone no one would dare PT in, I'm not making the 30 minute trip this raise would require.

We dock and I do a shout in this town of AFK for a raise and they proceed to say "Thanks for nothing." This after I told them I have no WHM sub that could raise them. Not my fault he was too dumb to /check, his experience should have told him to do that.

That little story aside. I don't really understand why the people with raise are somehow obligated to help you. I'm not crossing several zones to raise you. And I have zero sympathy for people that don't want a WHM in PT, but do want R2/3 when they die. I think its a slap in the face to a RDM or /WHM you did invite to refuse R1. Suck it up and take the R1 or you can HP for all I care.

I can't rely on WHMs as BST, unless I want to wait 45 minutes in hopes as mage will show, this is what reraisers, RR scrolls and items are for. If I was going against an unknown NM as any job, I'd pack a RR just in case.

If I ask then I deserve it because I'm me, but ya for everyone else they aren't owed it.

Did we need this thread? I think it's generally understood that unless you're partied with the person needing the raise, you aren't under any obligation to raise them.

Can I make a thread going "No Mr. DD, you don't need Cure II. Regen is just fine."? I mean, if we're gonna be stating the obvious and all.

No, we didn't need the thread. But it's not starting a flame war or anyway so not like it's a bad thing...

So, Proteus... I saw him once, and I was in an alliance of 12(for Ashu Talif Black Coffin Mission Thingymabob) and I said we should kill him and split any drops we can sell, but EVERYONE freaked out saying he would wipe the alliance and how they saw him take down 24 people on a boat once etc etc... yet you say he's a softer Chardy? that dosn't seem hard at all...

But it's not adding anything to the forum either. And for someone who is constantly posting backhanded insults against folks for not being informative, or adding anything, or for going for a +1 on their post count, it's pretty ironic.

We have a pet peeve thread for a reason. It's to keep useless threads like this from popping up.

Now you did it! I think you just sparked the fire.

I'll try to get my comment in before this thread gets locked though. Usually, it's courtesy to raise someone while passing by ( assuming it doesn't take too much work on your part. ie. getting off chocobo, wasting mp, etc. ). If the person is a complete ass though, I'll just ignore him/her and move on. If he asks me politely though and I'm in the mood, sure I'll raise.

The best way to make a thread you don't like go away is obviously to keep posting in it.

As for as the guy in the first post, it sounds like he was just a moron through and through.

Re: I don't have to raise you

There are a lot of things that are obvious to one person and not to another regarding the ethics. (raises, teleports, exc). While I think this would probably go better in the white mage thread there are people that feel if I'm a whm I'm supposed to raise because it's "what my job is" exc.

I will usually raise someone unless I'm in a hurry but because of the press of various requests some who refuse to take no as an answer /anon has been my good friend when whm.
Sidenote about xp raise In an xp party I think it's rude to spam a nearby party's whm with /tell because your party didn't bring a raising job. It puts them in the position if messing up their parties downtime because of losing 100+ mana on a raise. Please shout it and let anyone in the area respond if they are willing and able.

I've seen a few posters that try to divert a thread they don't like into a flamethead so it gets closed. Fortunatly it doesn't normally succeed .

Re: I don't have to raise you

Makes no sense to me how people think that because you're mid to high level, you automatically have a job that can raise. And that you automatically don't mind traipsing across sixteen zones to come back and help out.

EDIT, in response to Theyaden's post ... I was harassed by RMT one time in CN because their party kept dying. It was very obvious to me that they couldn't handle beetles yet, and it was not my fault their WHM kept dying. I feel badly for not raising someone - anyone - but when it comes to RMT, I feel more obligated to let them rot. It ended up working out for us, though, because we had a link and ended up escaping out of the zone, and we may have inadvertently MPK'ed them. (There's no way I'll ever know) Any other party and I would have felt bad for ignoring the tells, but for an obvious RMT party it felt kind of good. :D

Who said anything about getting a thread closed? I just don't understand why some of them get made in the first place. What exactly is this adding?

But I get it. My sincere apologies to Mog, eticket and anyone else I may have offended with my query.

No, it's the same complaint worded differently a few times. Since, you know, no one is answering it.

I maintain that BBQ should get a blog so that maybe he'll stop making so many useless threads.

You don't care for the thread? Then don't bother reading it; simple as that.

And wow, what an ass that guy was.
