  • Basic Questions

Hi, my name is Kagetoki of Odin server and I was just wondering why can't we have a simple arena, where players can step in or zone if you prefer, and duel. Ballista is great...but how often do people miss uncapped ballista due to the fact it was at 3am est. Many players, including myself, have often talked about having an arena where we can just duel for fun.

Also, just so I'm not forced to make another post, why in the world do we have 18 to an alliance. I'm sure by common sense you will know an endgame linkshell does not have 18 members. So how is it fair 50% of the players in the linkshell are not allowed fight. Instead they sit on the side, hoping to get in on the action if main alliance wipes or if their job inside the alliance dies. To make it simple, why not increase the strength of monsters and allow all players of one linkshell to attack it. If that is to complicated, why not add an "Call for linkshell" option which would be used like the "Call for help" option, except obviously only the people sharing the same linkshell worn would be able to attack it.

I'm not trying to say Final Fantasy isn't a good game, because if it wasn't I wouldn't play it, but all I ask is endgame activities involve the entire linkshell, and let us duel freely. I know that is two HUGE questions, but why not make the game twice as good then it already is.

TAOU has a closed Arena in Whitegate. It's really unclear if it will only be for Choco racing/monster breeding or we'll have Duels there.

      Re: Basic Questions

Honestly, are there any other players who want this, or am I wasting time talking to SquareEnix. Any endgame linkshell has about 30+ members and only 18-20 stay active in every HNM fight. The only con to allowing all players to attack one monster is the argument that "sixty people will just team up and kill it in two minutes." Earlier I mentioned buffing the monsters before making this change, and if sixty people fought Fafnir(example) and Ridill drops. Only one person can get that item, which would discourage groups from "zerging" the monster. Looking forward to SE's responses and other players..

If you adjust the strength of HNMs to scale up to 30 players whacking at it, you get HNMs that force linkshells to have 30 members to have a reasonable chance at fighting it. Linkshells will always have more members than they need for any one fight because they can't always count on 100% of the linkshell being available.

          Re: Basic Questions

^^ Very good point. I'm not familiar with HNM camping or Dynamis or any of that, but isn't 18 enough for lag? (lol) My computer processor, while pretty good, can't handle a lot of the laggier situations in the game, and while I do fliter out everything I can, I just can't see a situation where that many people attacking one mob would be good for my system. I'd probably lag out and get my party killed.

I've never really speculated on an Arena for PvP, but that could be fun. I'm not sure I'd like to do Ballista because the focus is on the game/match, not the PvP, and an Arena could be very cool especially if you can spectate (like a CS?), bet on the matches, and the winner get some sort of points that can be redeemed for super wicked cool items. Not just IS. I could totally get into that, and I would beat my DRK husband into a bloody pulp!

Oh, and with the betting thing ... it would have to be implemented by S/E ... not some stupid player-based betting. We know how that goes, what with casinos and people who rip others off. If two people traded their gil to an NPC and placed their bet, then the NPC could divvy up the funds after the match. To me, that makes more sense.

            Re: Basic Questions

If you haven't participated in any real fights yet, please refer to youtube.com. If your sig is not updated, I'm pretty sure you haven't been in any real fights yet. The fact is, we have about 15-20 people standing around. In example, Jorm fights, the "add alliance" is full, and we have an extra 5-6. So, thats an average of 20 extra people if not more standing around hoping to get in on the action. Letting your whole linkshell fight one HNM does not only allow all players to get in on the action, but it allows much more fun and teamwork. Dynamis is one of the best events, only because the whole linkshell will work as a team and we battle as one. HNM battles are more like the "main" alliance "add" alliance "extra party who helps on adds".

              Was that directed to me?

True, I've not participated in any HNM fights, but I do know that the lag is already horrendous on an 18 person alliance. I really can't see how slowed reaction time due to lag is going to help out, especially in the instances of Stun for big TP moves.

Regardless, even though I haven't participated in such events, I have enough in-game experience otherwise to at least offer an opinion on the matter, and looking down upon me simply for expressing that opinion because I've not done all these things yet is a bit ... stuck up, if I have to say so. I'm not one to pick fights or anything but I do believe that I contributed to your thread with information from my standpoint as a player.

Perhaps after I participate in Dynamis or w/e my opinion will change, but as of right now and based on what I know of some things .... like Garrison, for example which hardly compares but is VERY laggy even with just the alliance, the mobs, and those pesky NPCs.

My point of view is from a lag standpoint. I know for a fact that the more lag I experience, the less efficient I become, and that can - and will - lead to deaths. I'm not sure I would want such a situation in any kind of important end-game activity, and that's why I stated my opinion.

                Re: Basic Questions

Why wait for a ballista schedule to duel when you can schedule one any time you see fit? Brenner is available for 1 on 1, and I'm pretty sure Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba is as well. Hopefully, PvP will be available in the Colisseum as well, whenever it gets implemented.

As far as alliance sizes, I don't expect it to ever change. It falls back to the old PS2 capabilities argument. Sure people have to sit out sometimes, but strong LSes are usually very good about swapping people in and out during the fight. Besides, being in the add alliance for one fight doesn't mean you always will be.

On another note, presuming another's experiences in game and belittling them for it won't go too far here in getting people to take you seriously.

                  Re: Basic Questions

By any means I did not mean to disrespect you Aksannyi, judging by your crafts you could have at least 3x 75 and be in top linkshell on server. I'm simply saying an entire linkshell should be able to attack a HNM as one. If lag is a problem, simply turn off graphics. I'm not on this forum board to make enemies. All I wish is to help the gaming community of Final Fantasy. Theres nothing more I can really say about the topic. So I really just want to see the opinions of the community, and those of SquareEnix.

Oh and to the 1v1 statement, I really don't like dueling friends over and over. I really don't see myself /sh in town for someone to duel. A simple arena where we can all go to duel when in the mood would own. In that situation I do see a lag problem the first 6 months or so, but after awhile only 9-10 people would be in the arena.
