  • So much for good deeds :/

You know, when I'm out an about on BST (or any job) in the game, I try to help people along the way if I can make time to do so. BST EXP isn't exactly fast, so I don't mind terribly to help a PT out of a jam or whatever, its not going to break my progress by much.

So I had my GC coffer key, soloed it myself on Hellmines in GC - scary for any other job my level, but doable since I can create mindless minions for my own purposes. Got the key on first kill after I logged in, in fact.

So I start roaming between the banishing gates, checking behind #3 first. Since just logging in and out and checking there isn't much of an interesting evening to me, I move on to check gate #2.

Get the gate #2 and no one's really there to open the gate, so I poke around and get some light EXP off the bats, explosures, beetles, skeles and what not. BLM and MNK run by and the BLM is getting beaten down hard. They go further past the switches and the BLM dies. MNK now has skeleton aggro.

In short, I take some links, heal the MNK and raise the BLM.

    Good deed, right?

Some short time later while the BLM is in the corner resting, a PLD at half HP turns the corner with a mass swarm of bats, MNK jumps into the fray and is getting beaten sensless. I proceed to help control the pet population by charming and using Leave to despawn the bats in question, then follow up with some Cure IIIs. They thank me.

    Good deed, right?

Just so happens we now have four people in the vicinity of the switches. We can open a gate and...

They tell me to go away so they can get in the gate with no competition for the coffer. The same exact MNK I saved twice over moments ago. And then a RNG buddy of hers comes in to try to impose this as well. While it is true I did need the coffer chest, I was also there to see the potential for camping back there. The mobs are comprable to the chamber beetle camp in the first basement.

I could have tried to explain that to them, that I didn't need the coffer ASAP and could just wait back there while I EXPed, but it was clear they just now saw me as some evil coffer-popping thief for just wanting to go behind the gate. God forbid I get some EXP and get my AF later as a perk.

I didn't budge from leaving because I didn't have to. I'm just really amazed by the gall those people had to turn around and act like that. At least the BLM and PLD were nice about it and didn't harass me. They finally broke down and opened the door when I called their bluff on "we have have all day to wait." I proceed to go in and start having a look around at pets

BLM gets the coffer, and the RNG proceeds to rub it in my face. Like I really care. Good for the BLM. I don't think I would have raised him in the first place if I was blackhearted enough to refuse helping known competition.

I swear there are days people in this game make the RMT look like saints. Oh well, makes future my merit PTs easier to build.

    /comfort

I've had similar experiences as well. While power leveling a friend who's only just recently joined in the dunes, this IDIOT MNK goes and smacks what had to be at least a VT goblin. Suffice to say he was dead within seconds. My friend then jumped on the mob to finish it off and after that I raised the dead MNK.

Almost immediately after he's up, he tells me to f*ck off. Yah, that's nice. He was probably pissed that I didn't cure him. I could have, but I decided not to because I was already busy helping my friend, and to teach this guy a valuable lesson about what you can and can't handle alone.

It makes me really sad the kind of assholes that exist It's really disturbing when I've been camping an NM for a couple hours and some guy just shows up out of nowhere and sends me a tell claiming that the NM "belongs" to him (as if to act like he'd been there all along when I *KNOW* he just got there, to say nothing that you simply cannot lay claim to an NM before it pops anyway).

Now now, kids. It's not nice to make fun of people that think "hv" and "ur" are words.

Yeah, I don't know what's with people nowadays. I thought you had to get into an HNM for petty, stupid drama. Some people just seem determined to drag that cut-throat, backstabbing tension through every aspect of the game.

Isn't UR a villiage in FFIII? I get confused when people type like that, since UR reminds me of a village in FFIII.

As for the topic on hand..

People like that are why I hate the current community of FFXI (for the most part), I mean, if you let them die, they would cuss you out so on and so forth, you save them, they pull this..

Besides, I've NEVER had trouble with RMT (none have ever been rude to me) but I've had more trouble with the "legit" playerbase for things like this..

I was on RDM, and I was in Garliage helping a friend, now, at level 75 I don't use my AF legs, I use my Duelist Tights, Crimson or Vendor's, so a group of people /checked me and sent me a tell saying:

"Wth? You better not be trying to get my (lol) coffer, go away or I'll GM you."

                I'm just like:

"Whatever helps you sleep at night, oh and I don't want the coffer, for the record, I have full AF so "your" coffer is safe, but I should inform you, that my friend already opened the coffer behind gate 3 10 minutes ago, so you're outta luck on trying to get "his" coffer "

He didn't respond to me after that. lol.

Re: So much for good deeds :/

Garliage coffer compition is always silly. I hate that place for getting AF, especially when it's non-glove AF, so I have to go there as a level 50-60 job and worry about getting killed.

I used to get in trouble with a friend I duoed with because I'd keep helping people that I didn't know, and it'd either bite us in the rear or take up our time. I never really did learn my lesson on that.

Yeah, this is my last GC coffer ever, CZB coffer is next and I'm done with the original AFs on my taru. NIN is next for my mithra and after that, ToA AFs only, no more coffer headaches.

I finally just camped behind the third gate in GC. Happened to check about 45 mins later and there was the coffer. A RDM stepped in front of it moments before me and started buffing to avoid aggro upon popping the chest.

                      Too bad they were buffing.

                      Yoink. Beast Helm MINE!

I was given a stern talking-to in japanese, possibly claiming that was her coffer and not mine. Can't say for sure as I don't know any japanese.

More than conflict of cultures (since I assume you're not Japanese) so it could be a courtesy thing she was talking about (if you had a SS I could translate it) otherwise dunno xD.

Well if it boiled down to "I was closer to it," I would just say "I was here longer than you, you just happened to log in next to it."

BSTs are treated like second class citizen in this game. Just becase we can solo somehow means other people are more important because they usually PT. Though we do wear the red ribbon, a corset, shoot pink hearts and we also have crabs... that might have something to do with it.

But the pain subsides after I start rolling around in all the Beastmen and Kindred Seals I pick up solo. I walk away from my PTs with all the loot, all the seals and tank doesn't gripe at me about my subjob.

It might not be nice, but it's funny and, well they should expect it.

Ur was a Sumerian city in Mesopotamia, though you might know it better as Southern Iraq.

Anyway, I don't see why people still expect others to be courteous and decent in FFXI. They haven't been that way outside of FFXI for a while, nothing is going to change when they hit that 'Play' button.
