    Re: Most unfortunate lag moments

Weird. My connection is wireless, and I never experience any issues with that. Of course, the router is just in the next room.

So yeah, been hit with the lag stick more times then I'd like to remember. And always at the most opportune moments; like when I'm trying to voke off of the WHM who decided to tank for a bit, or when that feverishly contested NM finally pops right in front of me, or when it's my turn to close a skillchain.
Methinks it's time to upgrade to 802.11n...
Can you not run wires through your attic? Or do you live in an apartment?

Yup, I'm in an apartment. Honestly I don't know what the deal is. When I moved into this apartment about a year and a half ago, I ended up buying a wireless router and 2 pci cards so me and my bro (we live together) could share the net, and for the above mentioned reason's re: drunken friends; we have lots, and our apt is the midpoint between everyone else, so most parties are at my place. Well, that and we have the best toys ^^

Anyways, at the time, I knew bullocks about wireless networking, so I specifically asked about interference from other devices, they're like "oh no, don't worry about it, it'll work". Of course, I quickly discovered that 2.4 GHz phones and wireless internet don't mix very well. Actually, it wasn't quick...took me two weeks of profanity laced tirades and hair pulling to make the connection between being on the phone and having no internet.

Everything was ok until about 2 months ago, then my connection went to hell again. Honestly, I'm at a loss now...the only thing I can think of that could be screwing it up is my Wii, which is also wirelessly connected. The other day I lost my network, and noticed the Wii was doing it's happy blue pulsing light update thing. I powered the Wii down completely and my network was back within minutes...so I'm thinking that was the culprit. At least, that's the only thing that I can think of. It's weird, because our 360, which is also wirelessly connected, never caused problems...

I have like nothing running on the taskbar, I make it a point to specifically disable Norton before I'm getting ready to play FFXI, and it still lags out occasionally. My hardware is pretty current, so who knows? Any suggestions or thoughts are welcome, because it IS pretty damn annoying.

Have you checked for other wireless networks around you with the same/close channel?

Have know faulty microwaves to kill wireless networks, when the shielding is damaged.

My best and ONLY DC in 6 months of playing - party in Valkrum, on the beach and a Bogy aggros. I start healing left right and center, get hate, PLD vokes it off me, and I DC.

Log back in after a hell of a time with POL, and the party is dead, all except me. XD

            Yeah, there's like 8 other wireless networks in my building...I farted around with the channels, but it didn't seem to help any. And our microwave is a pretty new built-in, so even if it is the problem, ain't a whole lot I can do about it ; ;

              Re: Most unfortunate lag moments

Lol, well instead of "farting around" with your channels, try something like Netstumbler, which will tell you what channels those networks are on. Then you can adjust accordingly

The mcirowave thing was just an example of odd things interfering, only happened once to a client who owned a restaurant. Everytime that oven was used, it knocked out the Credit Card machine :p (Turns out that the microwave had been dropped on delivery and shielding was damaged).

Other than that, you know you can buy Network over Power kits? You plug one end into a wall power socket, and it has a cat5 port on it. One end into your BB router, then other end plug near your PC and Cat5 into that. Solves wireless issues then, with no direct wire to trip over when eveyone is drunk XD

                Re: Most unfortunate lag moments

I've recently been pining for a Seawolf Cudgel and Sea Robber Cudgel, so I've made a habit of riding the ferry back and forth looking for Silverhook and Blackbeard. One day, one of them spawned, and I was ecstatic.

I took Silverhook down to about 45% HP with still a healthy amount of my HP left when suddenly my game made a Taj-ish (see "Blue Gartr" forums) crash to the desktop.

I logged back in and some RDM was killing him (or getting killed... not quite sure). Either way, he invited me back into the party to help him out. This story ended well, but I was literally screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" at the screen when it happened.

Hahaha, I can well imagine, I've been riding the ferry for hours so that I can kill a skeleton for the sand charm and I never see the pirates.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

Oo I rode the boat from Selbina to Mhaura for the 1st time in ages, and pirates came, and dropped the sand charm. I chucked it :p This was only last week

hehehe!!!close call!!i also had my shares of lag experience.every time im out leveling, when i feel the urge to let the enemies swarm me,all of a sudden the world stops..which was good cause your the only one moving.but when it fast forwards, you find yourself laying on the ground and all the monsters are having a laugh at you.that sucks.

                        Keep playing!!I do!!

Finding out about a high level mob in a low lvl mob zone - all too late.

Riding on boat to Mhuara to catch Al Z boat, and pirates attack. So I thought hey, im bored, Ill have some fun.

Buffed up quickly - Proc, Shell, Phalanx, SS.

Chucked a Firaga onto the skeles. Next thing I know I get hit by a Waterga III. Then a few clubs. Then Im dead and devel.

Looked up Silverhook, turns out to be a Lvl 72 NM >< boy I felt stupid.

My PLD friend lagged out during his Maat fight and DC'd.... After getting Maat down to about 10% HP with still 50% of his own HP and MP remaining.

Most Unfortunate Lag Moment Ever. In my opinion...

Nah. The most unfortunate lag moment would be lagging out right after you claim a NM, or after the rarest item ever drops.

Mmmm... yes I suppose so. I still think it was quite unfortunate, it was like his fourth try

But yes, lagging out right after Theif's Knife or E Bow or similar dropped would be bad...
