  • Job "Personality" Categories

OK so I've noticed in my 2+ years of playing FFXI that there tend to be four general classifications of players. Here they are:

Beaters: Players who love to get into the middle of something and start whacking away. Typical job choices are WAR, MNK, DRK, DRG, SAM, THF, & RNG. Some dabble in playing PLD, NIN, BST and the three ToAU jobs.

Mages: These players like having magic of some kind available, and it doesn't have to be mana-based either. Typical jobs are WHM, BLM, RDM, SMN, BRD, BLU and occasionally NIN & PLD. I've even seen some mages playing around with COR.

Pet-Friendly: Always with a companion at their side.. Includes BST, PUP, SMN, and yes even DRG.

Confused: These guys play anything and everything, and enjoy the chaos. They'll even try out odd main/sub combinations just for kicks!

Of course, there's also players that have been around so long that they've done EVERYTHING. So.. what mold fits you?

          Ha!

If I were drg/smn then I would really be confused.

Hmm... I'm a RDM who is also a PLD who enjoys soloing stuff, trying different job/sub combos, having a pet or NPC out while meleeing and casting magic on mobs.

            So, what exactly am I?

A confused beater-mage, who is pet friendly?

I don't have a preference. But that doesn't mean I "enjoy the chaos" either. I just happen to have an interest in a wide variety of jobs.

I think if I had to classify myself in one of the choices it would be confused. I have not , as of yet , come across a job I did not enjoy. Albeit , I have yet to unlock a few jobs and have not leveled very far on any of them.

                They must find it difficult...

I would have to say I am a mage. My main is a Paladin so I am used to being able to cure myself as needed. If I can't do that then I freak out. Maybe I am somewhat of a beater, but that is not the main thing I do.

                      Re: Job "Personality" Categories

There are actually many more personalities:

Permanoob - Never listen, never learns a thing even with multiple 75 jobs.

Primadonna (sometimes mage/tank-specific) - Thinks they are God's gift to FFXI even when they're not worth a damn.

The TMI player (any class) - Has to inform you he's drunk, just had sex or needs to go take a dump.

AFK Melee (any melee) - Why is the WAR not moving to the mob when he has his axes out? House on fire? Not likely. Hit /assit and /attack and walked off the get a drink.

The Kid: An AFK variant (any job) - Has to help mom bring in the groceries or go AFK for 10 minutes to have dinner with the family. Sometimes plays after bedtime, yet has to fake sleep and goes AFK for that as well.

The lolEndgamer - plays what job will get them into an HNM, but is a wallflower other wise.

The Switcher: A lolEndgamer variant - Levelled jobs like BRD, WAR, NIN, RDM, WHM or PLD to get a spot in an endgame shell, yet somehow end up coming to camp kings as DRG, THF or PUP. Not a wallflower, but not exactly an honest member.

The Know-it-all-that-doesn't-know-anything (At least two 75 jobs) - Will give people advice, yet the most elitist player could have a field day with anything they say. Had a guy like this who was RNG, told me that Accuracy Bonus Traits only gave +2 Ranged accuracy per trait, I about died from laughter.

The moron - Usually DRK, sometimes not.

The Couple (two people, any job) - Always lovey-dovey crap from these two. They'll even position thier characters in front of each other, making their toons look into each others eyes. Its more pretentious than romantic, its not even cute, go to the hostel please.

The Seeker of Love (any job) - Thinks FFXI is somekind of Love Connection, has had multiple online boyfriends or girlfriends.

The "Girl" (Any job) - Plays a female character and says they are female, yet are a dude. They just want gear and gil from you.

The Hopeful (male player, any job) - Assumes a female character means the player is also female. The player in question likely didn't state their gender and is generally creeped out by this guy because in light of all the friendly /tells from The Hopeful, they're not sure what to say to them. Its best to just ignore The Hopeful.

The "Man" (any job) - A female player that picked a male character because she knows that if she picks the female one, she'll endlessly get hit on. Sometimes exposes their real gender when gushing about how cute Tarutaru are.

Why isn't The Tank on that list? My favorite jobs are, and have always been, the ones where the mob is focused on me.

Agreed. There is a marked difference between the ones that simply want to dish out damage and the ones that are man enough to take it as well. "The Tank" should be a category in itself.
