I don't like that idea at all really... I mean, what the hell is the healing ability for? It seems almost like you want this to be a DDing PLD... but we have enough DDs and Tanks as it is either way, so pass.

This job just seems like a really buffed up version of Warrior. Also, Insane Courage looks broken in my opinion.

New races isn't really the same thing as new jobs.

I can't honestly see a lot of people leveling a new character if new races were introduced. I mean, you never know, but it seems incredibly unlikely.

Re: In which we blather about possible new jobs for fun...

at first I was like "oh great, here comes another broken idea." But I do actually like it. I think a lot of the stuff would have to be implemented a bit different, but it's a pretty solid concept. I like the idea of Insane Courage, for instance, though I think the numbers would be different.

I think Bloody Vow is really the only one that would be horrendously abusable, and once again if the mathy numbers were adjusted to make it weaker (or if it wasn't on all the time), it wouldn't be bad.

I would take away Great Sword skill (I know, there isn't a GS master -- but still, 3 jobs can use it) I may even consider taking Great Axe down to B+ (depending on what's equip-able), and make the Fast Healer trait become multiple weaker traits. Also, +enmity traits really aren't needed. And I like the 2 hour ability. >.> If the Terrorize had a shitty duration like the Bst merit ability (Feral Howl, I think?), then it wouldn't be bad at all. Basically you can use a C rank 1-handed weapon to terrorize more often with crappy acc, or a 2 handed slow weapon to more reliably terrorize.

This idea does a few things. First off, it's obviously designed to be the focus of a monster's attention. It has abilities to attain hate and gain benefit from having them. The Revenge focus gives a believable reason for these boosts -- it's not just random "because we need this, we're going to give it X condition to perform Y function." But hate generation and abilities that make them want to tank isn't enough to build an effective tank (as we know from watching MNKs over the years). You need to not be an MP sponge. The idea of a supernaturally fast healer sure would provide an interestingly new take on damage mitigation. They don't cure themselves, just make their healers more efficient with their mp. This would be counterproductive to holding hate w/out the Defiance JT. Though I think I'd put it at either 10 or 15, and put the cure power ups at 15 or 20 or even later. 3 traits throughout their career at 25, 45, 65 (I think that's the levels of Dual Wield...) for instance.

This concept has a truely clear-cut purpose. Unlike silly Ninjas who took over a year to find a use for, this class has very obvious synergies throughout it's build. The only thing I would give it is more drawbacks.

                        also

i foresee plds up in arms (again).

you cannot combine to roles into 1 job. because no one will play it how its supposed to be played. dd/tank role? it will end up being a dd with great hate generation and healing potential.

every pld will throw up if they saw something like this. we dont want that now, considering all the ego massaging we've been giving pld lately. dont take it away from them.

so many people complain about nin being a tank and good dd, how its totally unfair and etc. how is this any better?

the idea is cool, ill give you that. but given the state of job balance these days, you cant expect a dd/tank job to be played as dd/tank. everyone wants to do big dmg. give players the potential to exploit something and they will.

It's basically a (feeble) attempt to recreate a "WAR/MNK" type tank that can compete (in the eyes of the players) with PLD and NIN. It purposefully has no +Attack or + Defense traits and abysmal Evasion and Dodge. Most likely it would eat def food like a PLD and focus on def gear, mitigating the idea of it as a DD tank to some extent, but still doing ok damage and acting as a secondary debuffer with the GA break skills (the idea of Bloody Vow is to act as a mini-haste to help build TP for use with break skills. BAR would not get Sturmwind or Raging Rush as GA skills. Probably wouldn't get Full Break either as those level WS are pretty much restricted to single jobs.)

The +Enmity trait is included for two purposes. First to help hold hate after Challenge wears off and second to make it harder to use BAR as a pure DD (by making it hard to keep hate off of).

But this thread isn't suppose to just be about my stupid idea! Let's see your's!

Even though I like the idea, on concept of Warriors truely being FFXI's berserkers, I wouldn't actually want it in the game. Maybe some of it, I dunno. Unless, of course, the initials were BRB. I'm only playing Barbarian if all my equipment has BRB stamped on it.

On the one hand, I honestly never want to see a new job in the game again. On the other hand, I really really really want a new and innovative tank. I still think Geomancer as an enfeebling tank is the key.

Pretty much every job effectively does 2 jobs. Thf is DD/hate control. Drk is DD/light enfeeble. Rdm is support/enfeeble with light heal/damage. Blu is whatever it wants to be. Cor is support/DD. The jobs with one true task are the ones that everyone knows are boring and rediculously easy. That's Monk, Dragoon, most DD classes because no one ever taps into their secondary roles. Oh yeah, even Pld is tank/healing and the little-known moderate DD capacity. And since tanks need "tricks" to keep them unique, I think enfeeble-tanking GEO should be #19.

Actually, it'll be number 14 because it'll appear in the same update that WHMs get deleted, all high tier Raise and Regen spells passed onto RDMs. The same update will feature DRKs and SAMs being deleted -- Rangers will be given Meditate and Blue Mage will fill the void left by the other absent jobs. Oh, and Monks will be renaimed "Air Monks" and be given Wyvern Pets and Super Jump.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"
