I think its pretty much unanimous, but I'd also suggest Rajas ring.
5 STR (free Triumph ring), 5 DEX (free whatever the lvl 72 dex ring is), subtle blow +5 (meh), store tp +5 (awesome, makes a real difference on many jobs, incredibly useful on SAM combined with the right tp gear too).

I got the Tamas and regret it. Tamas is very replaceable in terms of other rings available compared to all the Rajas offers. The Rajas is less replaceable and will benefit far more jobs than Tamas will if you ever even THINK you might level another job.

I got the rajas simply because I like to lv jobs and it can be usefull on about 10+ jobs, tamas probably only 4-5 jobs, if even that and well....satva.....2 jobs, altho ninjas should just use the rajas for thier blade jins for teh extra hate'in. lolsatva.

I'm getting the Rajas for the same reason that I'm going to merit STR (Yes, I'm a RDM -_-) and that's because those stats are indispensible, as everyone pointed out.

And I'm a wtfTaruRDM so MP is a joke.

While I wouldn't take a single item purely for subtle blow mods, don't underestimate it. We give mobs a lot more TP per swing than you might think, especially in TP burns. The fewer Abraisive Tanatra's the better I say >.>b


Same with Store TP. How is one less hit to 100 TP "meh" ? Isn't that the entire point of a haste build? To get TP faster so you can spam WS?

Subtle Blow is so underrated it's remarkable. MNKs and NINs are my favorite DDs.

Subtle blow: Probably great for other jobs, but as RNG/WAR, its the only subtle blow I get, so it really doesn't do to terribly much
Store TP: This was one of my big reasons for getting it. This combined with Skadi pants is one less shot to 100tp, never, ever a 'meh' stat.

Actually, Subtle Blow is a joke unless you have absurd ammounts of it.

Consider that every DD is giving the mob their TP gain +3 when they hit. You 3-4 melees constantly smacking the mob. The more DA/TA or Haste they have, the faster they feed TP to the mob. Every nuke gives the mob 10 TP. Multi-hit Blue Spells give 10 TP for each hit. Subtle Blow +5 reduces the TP the person gives by 5%. That's 5% of just one person in the party. That's a really small drop in a really big bucket. Look at it this way - even if you remove one person completely from the people that are giving the mob TP, it's still getting 100 TP in an alarmingly short ammount of time.

Then throw into account the fact that mobs don't even use their TP every time it's ready as long as they have more than 20% HP (they will hold it in and have a low, random chance to use it during every attack round) and a 5% reduction in a single person's TP given to the mob becomes even more trivial. Then also take into account that 5% less TP given to the mob from a single person may not necessarily add up to one less TP move being used during that 20% of HP in which the mob will actually use its TP whenever it can.

Honestly, MNKs and NINs attack so fast that I feel their Subtle Blow traits doesn't put them over other DDs in terms of TP given to the mob; it kinda just evens out the playing field.

I was under the impression that Subtle Blow worked the opposite of Store TP, so that the +5 Subtle Blow reduces the tp you give the mob by 0.05%

This would mainly benefit dual wielders since they hit twice per attack round, reducing the tp that you feed the mob by at least 0.1%

Now if that is the case, that isn't something to go all crazy over, but it is a very nice addition to a ring that already has a ton of nice stats. While soloing I have noticed a decrease in the number of special attacks that the mob's use ever since my wyvern got Subtle Blow, granted I don't know how effective it is, but the difference is noticable.

Get whatever one you will use the most. Here is something you should remember: You'll never be as good as the hardcore people so why bother. I picked Tamas because I'm primarily a mage and I always have the ring on. Even if I decide to level up a melee, I'll have gotten more mileage on Tamas than I would have on Rajas, because like I said: I'm primarily a mage. In a year or two, they'll be something better than both of those already(there already is for Rajas, but it comes from AV).

I also got Abyssal Earring from DM. Don't regret it and don't care.

Which ring is better from AV? Wiki seems to only have 3 which dont really look worth killing AV for unless they have hidden effects not stated.

Seriously, one piece of gear isn't going to make or break you. If you find yourself playing mage/support more, go with Tamas. If you play melee more, go with Rajas. If you tank most of the time and enjoy it, get the Sattva.

Incidentally, the Tamas does have a few uses even for melees. The enmity-3 might seem silly, but giving up a couple points of strength at level 30 for -3 enmity seems like a fair trade-off when you're talking about Jungles parties that have horrible hate control...

Mars's Ring: +8 Acc +8 Attack, Eva-8 DEF-8. Probably the best TPing ring in the game for a Melee. +8 Acc and +8 attack, for a sacrifice that is really minor.

Bellona's Ring: +8 Racc +8 Rattack Eva-8 DEF-8. Ok its not spectacular, but its rare to see +Racc and +Rattack on the same item. Its for those +racc/meat eating RNGs (and COR too)

Minerva's Ring: +8% Physcal Damage, -8% Magic Damage, Eva-8, DEF-8. Tiamat, Jimmy(I'm not spelling it), JoL, Bahamut, Its a Blink tank's (PLD/NIN, NIN/SJofyourliking) and their WHM's best friend. If you are going to take damage through shadows/AoE Magic, might as well reduce it :D.

Minerva's is +8% physical damage, -8 DEF and -8 EVA, though. Not a good thing for a blinktank. If you get hit by one of those shadow-wiping magic attacks, guess what's following behind it?

I agree with your evaluation of Mars' Ring though.
