    Iron Tempest isn't really that great of a WS. The only time I used it was in one party where they wanted me to close Distortion (pre-Rampage). I think using Shield Break was fine in this situation. Take one for the team, and help the entire party take down the mob more quickly.

    Hate management is a job for the entire party, including the DDs. The RNG probably should have held back a bit after observing the hate he was constantly pulling. But most high end DDs get such an ego boost from doing so, that it never enters their mind to hold back a little for the good of the party.

    With those kinds of players, it wouldn't do any good to even politely ask them to hold back. They'll just blast you as being a bad tank, and get some bad blood going in party chat. Just keep doing your voke-boost-boost tanking, and let the RNG take some hits. If he starts complaining to the party that they need a better tank, just respond that a good DD knows how to walk the hate line, rather than simply spamming high damage actions.

      I would like to say it's cause I'm just that good (yeah, right ^^), but in truth I've got to say my LS rawks. And most of us knowing each other irl makes things very easy. Many breaks at work or when we get together outside of work are spent discussing things FFXI related, which I do have to say really annoys the piss out of the non-gamers (and especially the WoW players, who everyday tell me I need to ditch "sucky" FFXI for a "good" MMORPG...bitches ^^)

      For example, one ls-mate mate of mine has is a 75 WHM and could be spending his time doing end-game and meriting, but since he convinced me to start playing when we started working together, we've always been partied together. It's rare that someone that's made it to the high-levels is willing to forego all that stuff for weeks at a time to help a newb like me take a character up from scratch. Without his help there is absolutely NO WAY I would have had a handle on job responsibilites, gear+food choices, etc. It may come easy for some, but for me FFXI is hard, especially now that I'm getting into the mid-levels where things like gear and party dynamics are much more important. I get compliments all the time when we party for our efficiency (he's taking NIN up with my MNK, and we work very well together from a tank/backup tank perspective, making the mages very happy), and he's helped me countless times with the ridiculous quest's that everyone has to do at some point (I can't even imagine having to shout for help and wait with the Kazham airship pass, for instance). And being that he's a NIN, he's got me into many parties that prolly wouldn't have taken me (why oh why is there no MNK love out there?) without his /seacom saying "We come as pair".

      So to him (and all of you that have given me such good advice)...this Bud's for you! {/cheer}

        hahahaha

        about your tanking experience...

        yeah, all's well. Iron Tempest is very hideous. It's funny because it's the laughing stock of all great axe-dom, but it easily keeps up with Weapon Skills from other weapon types.

        Your DDs were problematic, but I can't think of anything that could be much harder than what you were putting up with. If a BLU wants hate, they can get it (and since you say that BLU wanted to tank, the BLU was prolly trying their best for it). RNG are just friggin' heavy hitters and it sounds like you had a good one (in regards to equipment/ability... she needs to learn to walk the hate line though. Once she's through the dunes she'll prolly catch on). And yes, tanking is constant upkeep. You really do need to provoke every 30 seconds and boost every 15. But if you did even that good with that party layout, you're gonna feel like a king if you ever get to tank in a party where the DDs aren't capable of generating such high hate gain. I guess most DDs can reach that kind of hate gain, but only in certain circumstances (THF who does SA Fast Blade will always end up tanking for a minute, but they barely ever get hit) and most not 'til around level 30ish. And by then, you'll have more toys too.
