It is not a maybe. If they are not the best or very good, then you are not talking about an elitist.

IMHO, there is nothing wrong for a person trying to be elite, trying to improve, trying to be the best. If he motivates others to improve themselves, then he creates a good cause. However, if his believe or action stops grow or improvement, then it is bad.

There is a difference between "this is the best setup, everything else is garbage" and "okay, this is the most efficient way so far, let us see if we can find something better."

        Yeargdribble,

You might want to take things a bit more lightly.

BG forums are closed off now so I got no opinion on that. But the KI forums are notorious for their elitism. Consider the "/nin onry" attitude that the Warrior Forums had. Even now, flooding into the BLU forums is the idea that if you are wearing full AF even a level above 60 you are classified 'gimp', and promptly flamed for your choices.

One of the most comforting factors of this forums is that such attitudes and arguments are simply not tolerated. The joke about KI and BG simply is a joke, observing the huge contrast of player interaction attitude on these forums in contrast to KI and BG, both of which, like Allah, have been known to do nothing but degrade into argumentative bickering.

Anyways, I got a good chuckle out of that, Thanks kitten.

Re: Newb vs. Noob & Elistis vs. ????

Honestly, you can attack KI all you want. There's a lot of noobness that goes on there and moronic judgements based on little more than hearsay. However, I feel like BG is a lot more defendable. I guess some people just don't understand BG. You have to go there and take things lightly in all honesty. Most of what outsiders would see as rampant, hateful elitist attitude, is really in jest. It took me a while to figure that out while lurking.

I think BBQ (and most people) just don't understand BG and assume the worst. You won't find the "/NIN onry 100% of the time" attitude on BG like you will on KI because those people are smart enough to know that it's not the best for every job in every situation. Those players take great care in optimizing rather than being full-blown cookie cutters. What probably bothers people the most about BG is that they do not tolerate idiocy. You don't go there an ask questions that could've been answerd by going to FFXIclopedia. If you are uniformed, you will get flamed.

BTW... BG is closed off? Like they aren't taking any more subscriptions? I didn't know.

As for full AF, I guess it's how far you want to allow your choices to go. Would you defend someone that chose to wear a nation aketon in XP over a better piece of gear? I'm sure you wouldn't. However, my argument there isn't much different. If the piece of gear is reasonable to obtain, there's no reason not to wear a better peice on a slot. Example: Your AF may be WAY better than an aketon. Jaridah Peti may be a LITTLE better than your AF. Well, as cheap as Peti's are, why would you choose to wear something that was inferior. Nobody is insisting that you must have something pricey or difficult to obatain like a SH.

I can't speak for all jobs, but I do know that most jobs wearing full AF at 60 are indeed gimp, because there are superior pieces of gear for almost everyone in a reasonable price range.

Here is the thing. If you have shitty solo gear, huzzah, your problem. But if I pick someone out of 7 other seekers, and your gear or your sub is balls, then you are not only hurting me, you hurt the 4 other party members and in a way, you spit at those 6 other seekers. You are on other peoples time. You don't go to meetings wearing pink socks and underwear. You wear a suit and you look smart.

I had a fight with a N00b today... I invited him into the Ls when he just barely started, thinking that My Ls & I could help him down the path of good playing... Nope, got that Idea Wrong.

Just earlier today, he was a 24blm/8whm, not wanting to lvl his whm because he wants to go smn. (-.-) Me and another friend were trying to explain to him what happens in later levels when he tosses out the "Its a game, and I want to do what I want" card. We left it alone not long after that but told him that he might regret it. =p

                Yay, Ty for this Eohmer~

Re: Newb vs. Noob & Elistis vs. ????

When it comes to Blu and Rdm af, there are pieces that are strong staples (Blu Body for spells, 15+ skill and Str trumps accuracy bonuses, especially if you have strong ACC in other locations such as P.charm.) The hat is good till about O-hat cause there is no other equipment in game that enhances accuracy, potency, and has a MP bonus to boot. (Monster Correlation is a factor in accuracy and potency. Try sticking Wild Oats on a high VT or IT crawler.)

And a piece that can be questionable (Vit3 Agi3 and Spell interruption on Magus pants, great piece for when taking hate, and Vit/Agi is a factor/multiplier in certain spells (Jet Stream for Agi).

And a couple others that are more "meh" (Enmity down on Blu Legs, Parry up on Blu hands.)

In the end AF is meant to improve the all-around performance of a job, which doesn't aways get acceptance form a min-max obsessed gaming community. (Soloing as a rdm 64 in full AF isn't bad at all, and Exp, I still keep hat and body on at all times, swapping in legs when I don't want to suffer a MND penalty on my rse for my mnd build gear. Gloves and Feet take a break in moghouse cause I dont need shield and parry.)

The point being, in these forums, even if people don't agree on things, they don't degrade into a spit-fest, it simply winds up in people getting banned or thread getting locked. I've seen arguments fly in BG, Allah and KI and be unchecked.

As far as BG forums, the last I checked it, they closed off membership to invitation-only basis to control traffic flow (they were exceeding bandwith.) I do not know if this has changed, but the issue was all over Allah when it happened.

Re: Newb vs. Noob & Elistis vs. ????

Arguments fly at Alla because they are an unmoderated forum (to their detriment). They fly at KI because it's a cesspool, and they fly at BG because the posters there are expected to have thicker skins than your average poster.

Each place is different. I happen to prefer FFXIO, but some folks might like a different kind of environment.

Re: Newb vs. Noob & Elistis vs. ????

Getting a bit back to the original topic at hand, to me:

Newb: Something everyone was, a new player to the game or aspects of the game who is learning and will always be willing to learn, any and all new info available. There is no set level to stop being a newb as when you first do Dynamis at 65, it's new to you. When you first do those uncapped BC fights, it's new to you. But as long as you're willing to learn and accept constructive criticsm then you're a newb. Which isn't a bad thing.

Noob: Someone who disregards any attempt at helpful advice or constructive assistance regardless of level. Could be just starting out or have every job at 75, if you are aggressivley unable to accept advice from others you fall into this category.

Elite: Best of the best of the best of the best. These are the haves, the ones in the know and the ones that do it the way it's supposed to be done. Again, level is regardless as there is always something to do in this game for all levels. But an Elite will get it done and get it done right, it's just a matter of time. Well equiped, fully knowledged and obviously skilled, these are what everyone should strive to become.

Elitests: These are the ones who *think* they're the best, for whatever reason and not only expect you to have *the* best items, in their opinion regardless of fact, but to also blindly follow their advice. These are the ones who mock job combos that aren't gimped but aren't 'optimized'(War/thf, Drg/anything etc). And will call you out on your gear if it's not *the* greatest item available as well as any mistakes you make, whether you made them or not. These are sadly what many become, not all, not most, but far too many.

                      just my 2 cents

I don't use the word "n00b", but I know it's usually used on high leveled morons. I'll use "newbie" for someone who just started, but not in a negative way.^^

I said taht once too. Not cause I had a low lv sub like he had. But cause I didn't want to lv at the time and was trying to Farm or Mine or something and someone told me I had to lv. I told him I was trying to make Money to get bette rarmor so I could survive leveling. He's like come to dunes with me. I'm like I don't want too.
